"Years. Would he still four both on the floor and off the floor? What he demanded out of his teammates What he's made out himself. You know, and You know, we have some similarities in that sense. Yeah, There's some similarities. There are some some differences. You know when you want to think about who they are as basketball players when you want to think about Kobe and LeBron Personality wise, but you can't take anything away from the the dedication. And how they approach the game. How they approach their craft. How they approach things away from basketball. Very different. Very different, but the dedication is the same. If you saw that that celebration Of the Los Angeles Lakers winning the Western Conference. LeBron James was pretty damn you tick. You know LeBron isn't playing for Western Conference titles. LeBron and James is playing for the Larry O'Brien trophy. Explain for his fourth reign. He's playing for his legacy. He and the team are playing to honor Kobe Bryant. As LeBron James sat While confetti fell in the bubble. In an odd scene. There were no fans celebrating the fans want aboard a big video board, says Lakers Western Conference champs. It was just an odd scene. What else could we expect here in 2020? But I don't think this is it for the Lakers. I believe the Lakers are are goingto hoist that Larry O'Brien In about a week's time, and about a week and a half time, I think the Lakers will be champs. The Miami Heat. It's amazing what they've done. And granted. This isn't your regular Typical straightforward season. If it wass I'm not so sure that The Miami Heat would be here. I'm not so sure that unless we went into the bubble that the heat Would be here. A number five seed in the N B a finals. But what they've done has been amazing. The team just that the foundation is already there. But bringing on a Jimmy Butler. Nobody looks at Jimmy Butler and says, Okay, this guy is going to just change the game or the world, but his influence on the team is there. He's playing with guys who want to ball out. He's playing with players who don't need to be pushed or don't need to be prodded into improving. Hi. Joel and B. Hi. Karl Anthony sounds Is playing with a Tyler, A hero who had 20 years old just wants to go out and get it. He's playing with Ah, Duncan Robinson, who I'm sure is. Just throw Toby N. E. N ba, and it's taken advantage of every opportunity that he has. And quite frankly, that's what Jimmy Butler's had to do his entire life. You want to talk about a young man who went through a stretch of homelessness. And now he's in the N B. A You don't think Jimmy Butler appreciates every single thing that comes his way. You don't think Jimmy Umbrella has a different appreciate appreciation for his his standing in basketball and his standing just in life. The Miami Heat are going to make this close. They've played like it seen They are an amazing team. If not, they're going to push the Lakers. But I just I cannot see LeBron James letting this go. And all of the unique circumstances that I laid out to you here in 2020. I can't see LeBron James in the Lakers san. OK, we're going to just Be happy We're here. We're going to get this far and and let it roll. I don't think that's gonna happen. And we know there was a point in time. When you look at those those eight games to start the bubble Lakers, they look too hot. Trying to figure out the rotations Keep the players fresh. You think about that first game against the Portland Trail Blazers. Lakers. They don't look so hot. Then they started to get rolling. And here they are with an opportunity to pick up another championship. I told you LeBron James. I don't think he is going to be denied. LeBron James has made clear He never lost confidence in this team getting to the finals. It's all part of the process with job is not done from me personally for us as a franchise. I'm extremely problem, Teo be apart is franchise getting back toe where it belongs. This is what I came.

Tomorrow starting tomorrow with the way to play offset three straight games or whatever I do will be dip potentially twenty one baseball playoff games on I think in the next three days it'll be crazy why it'll be crazy and you got of course, Wednesday NBA final start. Yes. So we'll have plenty of stuff to watch. Sports. Galore right now, it's all over the place but no doubt. All right. Well, let's get to these calls. Tonight's game biggest for the Ravens or the chiefs eight, seven, seven, nine, thousand, nine on Fox. Let's start with Matt in Indianapolis you on the couple of Fox sports radio what's up. Matt. Guys thanks for taking the call. Star and again forgetting me home I commute from work Appreciate that. Yeah. So. As far as tonight's game is concerned I think it means more to the Ravens I. Think they're still trying to as as potent as their offense is that they are on the same level as the chiefs. Chiefs have been there. They've won it while Lamar does have the MVP I. think Everybody Compares Him to Patrick Mahomes. So I think tonight, it's probably bigger for them just to prove that they're on the same level. I would agree I would agree and the interesting thing rob is that obviously Baltimore has the better defense. So you know, Mahomes has a huge challenge in front of him Kansas City's defense nights particularly against the run not that stout. So let's see. It'll be interesting to see strategy of the Ravens. Do they come out and try to run it down the chiefs throat? What if if they were just disciple medical? If they did that and blew them out one by two or three touchdowns I'm talking about Baltimore. Would would that get your attention or still? No. 'cause they're now would be figuring in a row. And they and they really beat them up. You know what I mean 'cause could you could win and be like, okay just a regular season game. But if they dominate them, it'll be interesting just to see all right Brandon in Dallas. You're on the odd couple of Fox sports radio what's up brandon. Hey guys thanks for taking my call I. Just WanNa let you know that I'm a huge fan of, but listen you about a year and a half. I. "Puerto Bow on the season for the Boston Celtics somewhat disappointing ending I guess it's always disappointing especially if you're affiliated with the Boston, Celtics if you don't raise that championship trophy at. The end of the year, there were some bright spots, Jalen. Brown played pretty well on Sunday night. He had twenty six points in only seventeen shots on scale. Few things stood out. As you mentioned, Daniel Types really struggled to guard Bam out of bio during that crucial stretch in the fourth quarter and then Gordon Hayward I thought he came off a significant injury. He left the bubble for the birth of his child on scale. He looked a little sub part of me. He wasn't quite as energetic locked himself on Sunday night and I think the Celtics needed him to be that in order to have a chance to beat this Miami.

I don't know what you can get fired off right I mean it's just that simple and so people will say Steve. Choke and they were up to either one but they had already won a championship after advise Utah had Steve. League of Legends Salary Caps

League of Legends Salary Caps

"Talk about League of legends. This story totally flew under the radar guaranteed no one watching right now saw this at all and to me this is a major like really major and Anyone talked about it. This was on Dadi. Sports. L. L. TO IMPLEMENT SALARY CAPS will assign players in tears based on performance. So basically, what they're saying is a Chinese. League of legends okay. is going to have salary caps like the NBA. So you can only pay players so much money. And and that they'll have a minimum wage, the lower limit, a luxury tax if you go over the salary cap right. but basically. That players based on how well they perform will be assigned to tears, which determines how much salary they can actually make. I this to me is unheard of both I think in traditional sports. And Any Sports William do you think this is great like as a team owner? Do you like seeing this is a I mean I. It's tough for me to say anything other than I really like it. You know I mean like look I mean it. It's in the L. p. l., which is hardly forefront of what we're looking at right now in terms of sports ecosystem but it's a very important league in the global context right and I suspect it's me to address a couple things right? Like one is. Like let's I think it's probably not good for the players because anytime there's a salary cap that's usually like that. That means you're salaries caps really I don't know if this is a win certainly for the top pros, it's on a win for the less strong pros. Maybe there's a benefit here because now they're more draft viable salary basis although to be honest, they were probably already draft five on a salary basis right? Because the answer is like if there's ten slots, the eleventh players basically like. They're either playing like a highly specialized scherzer deploying a highly especially skill or not. Right. So you know there's a lot of momentum to get to get edge players into the scene. I suspect it was driven by the fact that there there is a little bit of arms race sports, salaries that takes place right and I think the publishers looking at it and they're saying, do I want my teams because let's be honest this is not altruistic I. Don't think is right being like a really help you. If we capped the salaries, you spend less on your players right and also it's not even altruism because I don't think it's good for the players as I've said so I suspect this was motivated more by. Riot would like that money going elsewhere into content into videos into train like basically anything other than paying rents on athletes and the salary cap I thing is interesting. It's it's like. I'd like it to catch on I think it's good. We have models and traditional sports with salary caps that I don't think really work because a lot of this has to do with teeth if you're luxury taxes, two percent nobody cares. But I. Think it's an interesting thing to look at and I think I. Think it's a good like it shows that riot is continuing to look. Like they're not resting on the laurels at the L. and what's happening. It looks like they're looking at other structures on an even though this is not the lcs like this is an important league, and I suspect could be viewed as an incubation ground for new ideas you know. Says, massive for the future reports at I agree Cam Roman says this only in China so for yesterday. and Joseph I'm not familiar with the of legends but I'm guessing some teams make more making unfair advantage, I? Yeah. That's that's that's every league for the most part I just I love this for a couple of reasons one, there's a clear effort here to make. Team ownership more sustainable. Which? Just about every other sports league has largely ignored. Right, like here, there's a clear effort to say, and this is the second thing. I love about it and you mentioned it in in some ways it dismantles the ability to have an arms race right? That's fundamentally what it does. Players can still be played paid well within this construct and I would argue it's much more of a mirror talk crisi within this construct. But what you don't get with this is like. Team XYZ decides they really WanNa sign faker right and they're willing to pay faker fifty million dollars right now all of a sudden every player who thinks he's as good as faker or maybe sort of as good as faker is now going well, he's got he's getting fifty million, I want forty million right and you sort of get this runaway train of player salaries. That are being driven usually by one or two irrational signings. and this sort of. Cuts the knees off of that like it it, it eliminates the ability to have that is driven signing. And it ties it also performance. And therefore. You have real long term stability I think as a team owner in this league

Why Esports Coaches Don't Fill the Same Role as Traditional Sports Coaches

"This is actually focused on coaching I. Think this is an interesting parallel of the were talking about. There's an aspect of the MLS LCS COMP that relates to coach and it specifically how coaches approach roles for players and a trend I think started about twenty five years ago where there's this whole thing for young athletes hey, they need to specialize early and they need to find. Not. Just the sport they WANNA play, but the position within that's what they wanna play so that they could focus on it completely. and. It's something that creates a potential issue in terms of teamwork and. Understanding of. Either the field or the virtual or the rift depending on what what you're playing. And that's something that is sort of changing in the sports world a little bit over the last ten years who actually? No, it benefits our goalies to understand what it's like to be an attacking player. They can have that experience. That's good. You flush aw bat specific cop and why that relates to coaching and how it impacts the ability of coaches to really be successful. Of course. Yeah. Yeah. to miss it. Did you ever play a traditional sports? I did I was a soccer player in high school. I'll split tennis basketball really all around until I got injured and play sports because I need competition. I think we're we're pretty similar So. When when when I first started playing like as you mentioned like there was this focus on his Asian and the parallel to. Something like Lee. Legends is abundantly clear especially in North America. players will before they're even like in in ranked 'cause you have those thirty levels to get to. To get to before you start playing rank games. They're gonNA choose favorite position and like that's just Kinda engrained. And that's Kinda rough. But I think that needs to be that needs to be tackled that needs to be gotten rid of because when you're only. Focusing on one position and we have a lot of that and it's hyperfocused in North America. We have things like one called one tricks where you only play one champion. So it's it's hyper focusing on hyper focusing even more than is already have like should be happening. So we have these these one tricks and these one position players. And they're they're going all in and the as you said, they know nothing about the other player. So where coaching comes in is like there should be a focus on foundational knowledge and just general knowledge that will contribute to the overall play when when you're playing midland when you're playing midland in League of legends and Everybody knows most people know and Lee legends that the Mid Jungle Synergy is incredibly important has amid later if you know where your juggler is going to be and where the opponent judy is going to be, you can plan accordingly But if you all you know is about your your mid lane like position like say trade against your enemy mid Lehner and like a manage the waves effectively while that's important. Knowing about the other aspects of the game is it is expansive like you'll have a massive over the other teams and it. It's crazy to me that this the like just knowledge this is just knowledge. It's just being neglected we and I feel like it's just so much more potent in in North America still while still needs growth in other regions like a do follow g to at all. Of course alibi European friends Yeah Yeah G. to. Last year did something unprecedented. They sent a perks down to the bottling and they brought in caps who was a world class midlander, and so perks demonstrated something that no other team had really done before and that a role swap can happen and it will benefit the team like he went from. Midland to bottling lane in they played even better than they did before if anybody in North America attempted the same thing, I don't think we would find. Any semblance of the success that G. to did and I it's. I I think we should start working towards that coaching and House how this relates into coaching is. Is just the the emphasis on on knowledge. Our emphasis is always just as I said earlier, just the position that. You're already play and there are so many holes. There's so many things because people are just rushing to. Can like immediately I feel like I've gone a little rambler here real. They're made for rambling that's the whole point of the medium. It's I think you bring up a really good point is that position Louis play is the hardest thing to do at any most consistent marker of the greatest players and the greatest teams. If you watch a premier league soccer, for example, I was watching Liverpool. Play this past weekend at the way they move even compared to the MLS is completely within motion they're all. Moving with each other if that means that the midfielder needs to go back to Centreback, he does that without debate he's thinking about, Hey, this position I need to be he understands how the team needs to move around the ball and that's something that like you mentioned with g two, it's possible to do if you understand all those positions. But when you're one trick, this is true of MLS is somebody will miss their assignment and the whole defense fall apart because it's all predicated on everyone playing that one specific role, and it does not nearly have the same. Level of. Cohesion of of nuance that that the best teams in other countries are playing for an to America's credit. That's true of other sports say basketball when you watch a team in North America play or in the NBA play basketball, we're moving very position Louis. Format where it's Oh. It's people playing around each other The big men are no longer just staying underneath the basket there out by the three point line. And in other places that's not true because America's got the best basketball player at the best basketball league and it's sort of a martyr of. You have the best players and the Games take on added level of synergy. That's only really seen at the absolute top level, and that again comes down to coaching and a lot of ways coaching from early days, and then also coaching that continues into the pro play and having players who are receptive to have coaches actually talk with them and I think that's what are the big things we need to talk about his eastwards coach is. Especially in North America Arthur coaches respected some are but quite a few. Probably. Just got thrown into their role.

Government Support - With Justin Stefanovic, VP Global Partnerships at Misfits Gaming Group

"The support it's been great I think it's been I think. If KKOB it hadn't happened I think we would have had a much faster. Adoption from local fans, businesses a very good job. Connecting on locally we do have some strategic partnerships locally and we've tried to work with some local businesses I think. One of the things we've taken from a I. I should say that So. For us it was a matter of like it was almost two fold. So we're already in this franchise leads right that had a localized proximity to a to a team like where we represent Florida for call of duty and overwatch like. So you from that were right. We should probably have presence in the markets when we have an event or sell tickets. Or merged people know what the what the Hell we are and and Ken Ken we can can we get more money can we can get better deals we work with the different, a different teams internally within the State of Florida to help brought to reach their fan base things like that. So it was almost like, okay, we need to have a presence here. And we moved our our LA operations, which is our over watch league team. She to Florida and several people from Berlin outside of outside of this running the Berlin office and LLC team. Most a lot of those people came came to Florida's well. Working with the city and county we said listen we want to have our headquarters here and we're going to. Bring a lot of jobs. We're going to bring a lot of people down here, and from that obviously, you can work with cities for your brakes on taxes and and just you know. Helpful. There's all sorts of programs for small businesses to help out with. With all sorts of expenses. So I think we looked in a lot of those. We talked a lot of economic boards like even even even talked to some city. Where we're going to be in Boca the whole time, and then there was talk me down to Miami and just looking at see like what these cities but the county's could offer us if we bring thirty jobs and that was thirty jobs pretty quickly I mean let alone scaling up down the road so. And that's where you know we said, hey, we're going to do this What can you do for us? It didn't have to really be a lot of ink or even may anything I think we just ask a question and I think if you don't ask sometimes you know the county and city aren't GonNa, just open like Oh yeah had come here's. We'll help you out with this. This doesn't this. If you say listen like we're GONNA bring jobs we're going to bring revenue we're going to bring opportunities you know how can we work together then you start getting the different boards in the The county level state level listening to you about how so. Yeah I've I've I've done a little bit of token the past Locally here in Australia with sommes and and councils, and the state government that we used to have, which is a liberal potty. You know about exactly those kind of things about hacking you support these people to provide jobs into the space and you know I talked to I talked to three full five teams are all based in Sydney and Melbourne versus Sunni rivalry here in Australia it's it's almost like L. A. Versus New York I guess and saying to them, look these teams would move if you provide them with some support and these government. Austin. They've got a lot of facilities that are fairly empty office spaces that are looking to fill L. even like the Australian Football League, they bought a stadium. He had stadium announced called Marvel and they're always talking about how it got so many empty rooms in the small function rooms in spices and things like that too. So it can you work with a game who's just you know raised I million in seed capital and his hide five ten stuff to give them an office face you know to you. Give them give them some tax benefits give them some support from the from The v Victorian Chamber of Commerce. For example, you know help them with the with the business development departments within the local and federal governments because there are. So many of these know there are local is a local government potty or local government business here in Australia that takes game development companies, I've. Essays does to his in China and takes them to tencent and say look he is the best that we have to offer you. Can we hope to facilitate some wet between you guys and I think that a lot of the time I feel like in in as bullets in infamy? Personally. I've alienated myself from every other traditional startup business where often people say wasteful it's way different. Yes we're startup. Yes. We had to raise money. We have a pain L. U. S.. Business like everyone else. But in some way we feel like way different. But ultimately, we're not you know we still need. Jason money we still need sponsors. We still need profit and loss. We still need staff facilities. In the NBA sports is just business.

Chicago Bulls officially hire Donovan as next head coach

"We had some big news that broke in the NBA on Tuesday afternoon after we went off air and that is one of the most desirable head coaching jobs in the League of the Chicago Bulls with their young talent. With a new front office scale, they found their head coach. It was an experienced veteran who won sixty percent of his games over the five years. He was the head coach of Oklahoma City, and that is billy Donovan scall- getting head coach of the bowls on Tuesday afternoon scale. What was your reaction when you heard the news that billy dee is going to be the headman for the bolts and I don't. Think about all that I have I'm not good with that type of stuff and I don't WanNa see here and B. M. B. S. The people I don't know what makes a good coach a certain situation I don't know what he did it Oklahoma City where when you had Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook and Katie left in it. It's just it's just a lot of variable. I know this year they were great day overachieved and he was great for. Them but I do know they also turn the keys over to cruise pause at went. But so I wish him the best I I don't I don't know what's which is even the benchmark look like for Success in Chicago I'm not even sure what I i. if I understand that I'm not even sure I understand their roster of if how good they can possibly be like a lot of guys under team. So I'd be lying if I told you all man. Shares he's going to do so good I don't I don't know any of those things. We'll see he did win sixty plus percent of his games out of the four hundred koshen. Okay. See he had an eighteen and twenty three record in the playoffs as team went to the Western Conference finals in year one when he had Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook of what they did not win a series after that any inherits a very young but my opinion relatively talented young team in Chicago So kudos to billy dee in the front office Chicago for a after a long exhaustive process finally getting their guy scale. Here's some of the other candidates that were interviewed by according to Marc Spears also according to my sources in the front. Office as well. Are they talked to Stephen Silas Jamal. Moseley Dan Craig Kenny Atkinson Gironde Collins Yodok David Vander Pool West Junior Darvin Ham and Chris Fleming who is there assistance assistant so they had a pretty long exhaustive search I. Think the search pivoted when Billy Donovan became available. That was something that was maybe unforeseen, and now he's going to get a chance where they knew front office to lead the Bulls and try to get them back into the playoffs. Gal. On because Chicago has been the second worst team in the NBA Ed only the New York Knicks in terms of the record over the last three years.

"If you're a player how do you build through? How do you go through with this? What are you want if you're player van? I don't know how good you were who, but if you're if you're a basketball player. Where do you thinking about in this? Man Look I i. think it was a couple of nights ago. I. Think George Hill. Howson George Hill Talk Right. And he was he was talking about the fact that he didn't really did feel like they should be playing anyway with their anyway and I was I was listening to listen to him. He doesn't want to be there. I'M looking at him right and they wanted to talk about the game. He's talking about the game, but he's also emoting in a very in a very real way. He's. Conflicted and not conflicted but angry about the position that he's in not that anybody made him play. Anyone compelled him to be somewhere that he didn't want to be but this is weighing on his mind. By. It's it's something that he's thinking of. So imagine being sort of in that position. Not We all gotta go to work. We're not. We're not. We're not. We're not treating NBA players as if there's some sort of special UNICORNS we're not. But. We also some of us is society don't have the burden to be as directly outspoken on these issues. As we do a celebrities do as high profile individuals do so they can't think about basketball they're thinking about all of these different things and it's got to be tough and it's also got to be tough plan on a bit court that says black lives matter wearing a black lives matter t shirt wearing a slogan on the back of Your Jersey all it is, and then when you turn on your TV after the game drained, it's happened again. Am I going through the motions or I'm having an effect? Because there's a part of this. That can be that can be it can sort of be looked at at if you're a player as am I doing something that's making all of this more palatable to Americans right am I out there playing, give them giving them escapism giving them. All of this stuff with society has an earned it. You know what I mean, and you don't WanNa feel complicit in that and I'm not saying the eagles guys do I'm just saying I'm sure part of them feel like, no why would I give you something to watch on a on a Wednesday night when this manages just eight in the back, just fix this and then you can watch some basketball and I'm not mad at that and especially with with black minute women in all the pronouns being African Americans. We have to deal with not just working, but also working with that trauma on a daily basis right? We have to work with dealing with. Doing the best that our job but also thinking about what's going on in the world and you know van is van Leith in right. But he's also nobody cares about that. When he walked down the street right you're still a black man I'm still a black man to we still have to deal with these things and. Kyri. Gary. Urban brought up this conversation before they were going here. Bought, it was a distraction that you know. They're coming back to play and coming back to work amid all this stuff than I i WanNa get to your opinion Robert I want to get this to van. You believe that it was a distraction to go back in here and I can't say. I'll we're all here because we love the NBA. Rob Loves NBA Logos. NBA NBA can't say. because. The reality is that just an I bombed out. I'm super excited like I said I bummed out that I'm not GonNa Watch Lebron close out the trail blazers tonight. Sure. And at the time, that's sports was coming back. Was it did it not feel like Elixir for me Personally, I watched baseball. Make them on who does that. Mean so so so like you know I can't say I can't say whether or not. It was a distraction I. Don't think that it was, but I can't be sure I know right now. The players feeling like they need to do more I'm completely on the side of that now I don't disagree with High Rethinking That's distraction, but I can't say whether it was or whether it wasn't I just don't know. Because a feelings that they have now is a feelings that they had before the bubble riot and this suggests cops just going to stop killing black people in the streets. Not. They're not gonNA stop doing that anytime soon. I just don't see. What more we can do right now, and that's that's why I'm kind of. Pessimistic about a season happening right because. Nothing's really changed since George Floyd die or got killed right there's nothing that has changed. Do you see. Do you see them coming back anytime soon rob I think there will be some kind of intermediate resolution having it on video makes a lot of difference put putting in front of People's faces and saying this is irrefutable. You can think whatever you think about Oh he had. He did this and his past, which is irrelevant piece of information. You see what police did to him in the street other. People witnesses in front of them what are the cops doing when there aren't cameras when we aren't looking and I think what's meaningful about this situation we can't take the Milwaukee piece out of this the fact that the bucks the nearest the most proximal team to the shooting itself is important but this is a group that has some skin game. This is a team that plays in the most segregated city in America. A city that they represent a now have to go home to, and the fact that they're the team that's leading the charge on this I think it's meaningful. I can see that I just. As we're as we're again, this is a fluid pod shrive blakely of NBC Sports Boston just said that both teams from the Celtics and the Raptors are leaning towards not playing game one of their series and you that is a huge deal of going forward. So I don't know you got any last words van. What do you think? We love the NBA Yes, we love the NBA. We love watching the NBA is been great to see some of the storylines that have come out of bubble. Bobble basketball has been great in fantastic we it's felt like. For A moment that we were back to some.

Even they had had some level of self control the whole thing Go off some Bucks Games. Please goodness sakes let me just say. This is a good opportunity. You people don't know what you're watching. Oh come on. You don't Know Kevin. You don't know what you don't know what you're watching sh you know. There's four great defenders in front of the guy and he never comes out from the basket. Doing stand around the basket. This is I was just ashamed to be got drafted second. You trick the world into thinking you're amazing defender. Like College basketball. You just set the guy in front of the basket play over a decade in the NBA over a decade and he suddenly became Bill Russell. Or maybe it's the system you'd make me mad. I knew you'd make me mad before this is over. I was just trying to make a friendly suggestion. Well now we'll have at least three weeks for people to write Lebron. "Nian sharks are GonNa talk about rebuilding franchises and the Lakers and the mavericks and how they're tweaking the rotations as they head towards the postseason before we get into today's show just wanted to encourage you to follow at ringer. Nba On twitter. It's a great great account to follow along to get all the updates on NBC News. Everything the ringers. Writing about and follow along games at night with some great social coverage without any further delay. Getting today's episode of Ringer. Nba Basketball is very good below and welcome to the rare NBA show. It's group chat. It's Chris Ryan. I'm joined today by Jonathan. Sharks in a mini group chat. We are here. It's Wednesday March Eleventh. And we're going to get into a bunch of NBA news some talk about NBA rebuilding projects and also some lineup from charkes. Talking about some rotations stuff but first sharks. What's going on with you man. Well I guess I think I started on twitter but for the pod people. I'm actually having my first kid and were scheduled to be induced next Thursday so stops sharks coming into the world. He's going to be tall. I'm pretty excited. My Wife's five eleven so we're going to have a big boy. What if your kid is like five six? What are you GonNa do Teaching Baseball? I guess that's right. Give them a little buzzer to put on his chest so that he can read pitches like Al TV. I like make them left handed. That's the key make left hand. That's right guys make money so we have what was it. Was a remarkable slater games last night. So we'RE GONNA do a couple of different bigger picture things today mostly talking about some of the rebuilding projects going on in the NBA. Right now because I feel like that's being a little bit in the ether. People have been talking about it and charge. Had some really interesting things to say about that. We're also GONNA talk a bit about the mavs and Lakers specifically in relation to the way recall. Al Franken will are kind of Plotting out there rotations as we hit the home stretch and head into the postseason charged. I guess we have to sort of start a little bit here with a corona virus. Update obviously neither charge nor I are at all qualified to comment on this. I'll just pass along the news in case you are listening to the NBA. Podcast but have not seen any NBA headlines. The Board of Governors is going to have a call today to discuss the League's response to the situation would put out a report last night any. Espn we won't get too deep into this because I think it's a pretty quickly moving evolving situation and it could probably change by the time you hear this but said that the NBA is considering a number of measures including playing games behind closed doors. Moving Games to cities that have not suffered a corona virus outbreak or suspending operations altogether. You know this is something. That's affecting almost every industry in the world right now. Clearly in in Europe right now we're seeing cancellation or suspension of Games in Italy. They're playing champions. League games behind closed doors. It's likely or it. Seems likely that that will happen in the premier league with soccer and as we get into the states here we could see some of the same stuff charge on it. If you have any comment on this stuff. I mean it's really scary. See what's happened like in Italy? How fast escalated from? Hey we're just GONNA play game south fans to Mike the whole country shutdown and I mean he here in the states. Even the ringer dot com is being changed. Chris you're working from home today. We are working from home today. yeah you know. We'll we'll update folks as we get updates from the NBA if anything changes over the course of the PIE will jump in. But that's pretty much all there is to say about that. We'll see how we'll see how they day enact some new changes there. I mean like obviously they've already put some new policies into effect in regards to media access to the teams And you there was stuff on twitter yesterday of people standing like eight or nine feet away from Lebron James but yeah I mean it's A. It's a scary situation. We hope everybody to stay safe out there and follows best practices. We can get into some of the action from last night. I don't want to Belabor it. Too much the Lakers finally lost a game. They lost one zero four one or two. I guess you call them a resurgent Brooklyn Nets. L. is eaten to in their last ten and they were coming off perhaps their most impressive stretch of games of the season. There's a few Lakers things. I want to point out but I think we can wait. Talk ABOUT THEM IN LINEUP. Charge three in a row for the nets. I was just wondering what kind of ended the season. Do you think Jacques von needs to have to keep the nets job for next season? Yeah I don't know this seems like a classic new coach bounce one thing. I've noticed whenever a coach gets fired. The next two or three games like the new team always plays better. It seems like whatever reason that kind of lights a fire under people and really if Jacques von wants to be the coach next season. It doesn't matter what on the talk to carry and Katie and chop it up really. Yeah I mean I think that you see this ally. This happens almost every sport where there's just like that new voice in the locker room changes things but to be fair. The Nets are doing this on the road to get some some relatively impressive teams. Obviously the Lakers being the biggest one of those. Did you catch any of the game last night? To see what von might be doing differently. Aside from giving De'andre Jordan bigger looks to me like you're asking. What's the best learning to keep his job? That's doing that like John. Bonds got no okay. This is a political job. Now this is not about like maximizing lineups. I've got to keep my best players happy. And if that means playing the less towns player than it does yeah. I'm kind of curious about Zach Lowe and Kevin Arnovitz had a conversation about Kenny Atkinson. I don't know if you call it. A Fi- firing or decoupling or whatever you. WanNa call happened to him in the nets and they were talking about the sheer number of coaching jobs. That might be open. Come this off season. And it's interesting to see in both Brooklyn and Cleveland. You know at least in Cleveland. They've actually made a real commitment. Ajay bickerstaff by giving him a four year. Deal and in Brooklyn. You have to wonder whether or not a decent showing in the playoffs against as a seven seat for Brooklyn Submits von at least for another year so in in in B K. The five thing about it is like Thai bust in the Lakers. And when you're watching those Lakers games last week against the clippers and the bucks and you're watching him. It's like Oh. This is the same team as the cavs a couple of years ago. They play the exact same way. They maximize their lineups. They haunt Lebron with mismatches. And then at the highest levels it just really feels like the best players the coach essentially so whoever the nets picker don't pick their depending on. Kevin durant being able to read the line ups evaluate talent and identify a mess. Batches right so it almost doesn't matter who the guy is. If Katie thinks deandre Jordan Jared Allen. That's a big problem for the nets because your best plant your coach your GM is not avowing talent very well. Do you think of Durant is player. Do you think durant is the floor General Guy? I think he's going to have to be. I think that's my left. Golden State is because he wanted to have what Lebron has have. Total control of the franchise. And you know when you have that controls lot of responsibility. It's not an easy to do. Yeah I mean that's it's going to be a situation where I you know. I mean obviously durant one of the best players have ever seen in my life and you know at his peak during the playoffs last year you is arguably the best player in the League at that moment before he got hurt. Especially you know those fruitless first few games of that Houston series. But you do. I don't ever think of him. As a you stand over here type of guy you know for his for his communicative Izzy is on various social media platforms in a variety of different ways. When I watch his teams I don't think of him as the conductor of the orchestra so it'll be fascinating to see how that works out next year as he comes back from an Achilles and it'll be fascinating to see how that meshes with Kyrie who I think has had a real on off relationship with being a leader. Obviously yeah I mean you have to think if you're the nets you have to hope that. Kyrie's saw I went and Boston with him as the guy and decided. I'd better find another version of Lebron play with felony win again like you have to. That was his thought process by going up with Kate with Katie. Yeah absolutely in other games last night. Boston beat the Pacers with another thirty from tatum. The rockets stopped their slide beating Minnesota And hard scored thirty seven and fully just snapped awake after slumping over the last week. I think the most interesting game for our purposes though today sharks was the one that might have been the least interesting to a national audience. Which was Chicago's five point? Win Over. Cleveland I checked out. What's most of this game last night? And these are two teams. That are going anywhere anytime soon. Obviously but I guess the question that we're talking about today is. How long do they have to be comfortably? What they are which is rebuilding clubs now. Chicago obviously came into the season hoping that they're young horror that they would nurturer and to kind of low playoff seed. I think a lot of I know a few people around the office. Were talking about the Bulls as eight seven eight seed and we're really excited about Carter Levin Mark Implying together and we're pretty high Kobe. They've been ravaged by injuries. This season I think only four of their guys have played sixty or more games this season. But you know they obviously have some institutional issues as well as well as some fit issues. There's been talk around the Bulls Organization that this will finally signal the end of the Gar packs administration and that they will bring in a basketball ops person to run personnel ultimately although that comes with like a grain of salt because still have the rise dwarfs you still have you still have a form and impacts and probably stay within the organization it stored starts to veer towards a Nixon kind of territory in terms of. Who's making what decision but church? Why don't you talk to me a little bit about why you wanted to chat about this today? In the first place because in eastern coffers there's a few teams that I think have a little bit of breathing room. They have some time to kind of discover where they're going as franchises. Maybe some some fan bases that are passive. Put it that way. I don't know if I would call bulls fans passive but whether it's probably I would say resigned. That's probably a better way to put it.

"All that stuff is true. It's very early in the season. I get it football still happening. People are probably still really you know thinking about the cowboys more than they are about the Mavs but it does feel like it's more difficult to make the case as to why you need to take time out of your to watch Luga than it is to wash. Lamar Jackson listen. I don't have any like it. Just it just feels that way. I'm not saying like I have like a stat proves that I would also say I'm I think there's an open question whether or not Jaanus in Luga. Perhaps the two of the biggest guys on the rise right now especially amongst the younger crew are the next frontier of you've NBA faces of the league. I think I haven't seen the data to suggest that they can carry it in the same way that Lebron can not celebrities and so I I do wonder I mean. Kevin O'Connor wrote about this for US last week. Changing facedly stuff. Yeah Yeah and also just on the same day that Luca had a monster performance in a matinee against the rockets the cowboys were playing the Patriots in that game was I believe like one of the most watched games in full like recent history shirt that it was like two thousand in seven now. The cowboys are a rare case. But I think that's what you're up against Yasser Markets. Yeah absolutely all right. Well that's what we got for the ratings talk. We're going to bring in sharks. "It's just that's going to be negative space. And he just don't have Gordon to really going to balance out the team anytime about a top heavy. They're playing Ben. mclemore Tana on a minutes. Yeah Ben Mc more he's starting yeah. I definitely expected macklemore to be like to step into the NBA. And be the next reality. Do you remember this when he he was getting that buzz. Yeah he was a top ten pick. I liked him can had a Kansas. It just did not happen for him. And I don't know if like just getting into the king system just completely just torpedoes he does. Everyone like just completely like sucks out his his confidence or whatever it is but if he cannot just hit open three pointers in the rocket system where they are just like in abundance abundance. I just don't know what we can do with them. But yeah they're down to like some guys that really shouldn't be playing heavy minutes for them and so that's why I'm concerned on the flip side though the other team or one of the other teams in Texas is having the complete opposite early season. Let's talk mavs too much. Talk on the ringer. Let's talk mavs. CHARKES CHARKES flag three questions before we started this in one of them. Of course like Ted maps questions. People Talk Luca Man. It's great apparel. Yes so let's start with this one. We have a few of them. We can get the two that are all kind of related. But let's start with Luca and specifically this is from D. fern if Luca Danni continues to maintain his current averages and form or slight slight drop how many games the mavs need to win for him to generally win. MVP So basically how many wins do the mavs need for Donncha too heavily legitimate shot. MVP repeat I'm an IT's Tou- if you're talking legitimate shot at MVP the bucks you're GonNa win like what sixty sixty five games probably. Yeah fivethirtyeight has them with sixty to to their projection. What are the mavs right now? Are they changed it since Wednesday so I checked this Tuesday afternoon and they were at fifty am. I think it's like for a second year player. There's going to be so much kind of resistance just from like a second year guy jumping the line a little bit. Probably like fifty five fifty. I I to me. MVP Talk a little. I'm ready to go there yet because I just think catskill fifty seven wins probably to be realistic right. If he's a fifty wins in awesome sixty two. He's not GonNa get the orders away. Yeah I think the thing that John are sorry is going to be up against is just that he is the newcomer and I think regardless guardless of how well he plays. He's always going to have that little like he's that's going to be used against him in so I wrote down sixty. I think sixty is bulletproof. If you get to sixty wins wins. That's enough to basically like discount anyone trying to knock him for this being too early or whatever. It might be Realistically I think it's probably closer closer to something that you know with the rockets got last year. which is fifty six? I think you do need to beat the rockets specifically yeah first. Shirts Harden is is going to be like the obvious comparison who has the better record of those two ships. Yeah I mean I think we are barreling toward similar result last year where Jaanus the box are going to win. A lot of games in Janas is going to play particularly well. Middleton has been now doesn't have brogden there and so I think he is getting more opportunities and just by sheer fact of taking more the threes and making more threes. You'd expect at least the scoring numbers to take a little bit of a height there. I think I think for Janas that helps to have that like extra thing because you can have to have a new story every year and now this your story is he has a three point shot and I think he's the Anti Load Management Guy. He plays all the time. Yeah that's right. He's the prime of his career. He runs around constantly. He's almost indestructible. Seems like hurt before I can remember even hurt I would. I guess. I don't think he's been to to the point of like Karl towns. WHO missed like a couple of games only because he was in a car accident but yeah? He's been really durable throughout his entire career. Yes that's a good point and he's always going to have. Also the the defensive argument and on the flip side of that harden will constantly be this. Just like unstoppable offense of force. He's also taking a step forward area in like progressing the narrative. You've he's flirting with forty points. A game as an average and we talk about will all this other stuff and so I I think to be paid his dues. I believe in that a little bit. Lucas got tunnel indepedence. We don't need to jump the line right the backlash brewing already. Let's not get out of hand with this thing. Yeah I mean listen look has a legitimate shot at this point I would put put him third because yes we talk about it. Being Ju- earlier maybe like the mavs schedule as Isaac flagged for me. It has been a little shaky at the same time they have the best offense in the NBA and they're currently sitting at the top of the NBA in net rating. Like that's legit and we'll talk mass for a second. Just I think a couple things that are happening. People really aren't realizing nationally that I made a big difference for Dallas last couple of weeks. Sleaze Carlisle's kind of figured out that Lucas dribble the ball the whole game. So if you have to dribble so it's not gonna work because Luka has the ball like no one's tongue lucrative of the ball up that means he's finding guys who don't have the ball so I he starring Tim Hardaway Junior sure and the funny thing is about Tim Hardaway Junior for as much grief as he gets. That man is always ready to shoot right. There's no t h j the catch. The ball's GonNa go up whereas like the law right. Seth Curry Jalen Brunson. All those guys are really thereby ball handlers. They don't like it in the rhythm of Luca Dom in the ball like that both ta J it's just catch and shoot catch and shoot. And that's a key for Luca's yet to have cats and shoot guys around them. Playing T H J more and they're using porzingus porzingas more off the ball like kind of cutting back on his posts ups. Because they're saying look porzingas your best Lucas Gin you shots. And you're getting upshots fast fast. SAY WE'RE NOT GONNA like post a million times and everything low. Low percentage turnaround shot. It's cutting off. The ball. flew capacity quickly and shooting and then like the team is being maximized on the bench guys than the bench. You've got like Curry Right Brunson. They're killing teams too because they have so many good point guards when Lucas. Not In the game. I think that really adjustment crawl maiden last week and a half it was pushed the mavs becoming a really good team this season. Yeah I mean we've talked about this to that the the fact they swung and missed yet again in free agency they didn't get a Kemba Walker. Another sort of superstar to pair with Porzingas and Luca Dodge as worked out in their benefit. They just seem like a more complete team and that's already paying off in terms of regular season record. They're currently fourth in the West at eleven and five and like I don't expect this this slowdown Specifically because what you're mentioning the deep If they have injuries a guy like Brunson step of employees more I think the question then becomes. What are they in the playoffs offs? And do they have enough in our these. Some of these kind of insularity guys who are filling in roles now. Are they going to be enough against the top. Heavy team like the Lakers. There's like the clippers seats to me. That's where it gets tough to send conversation as the jazz like the mavs their defense on the wing right now. It's Thornton medicine really good. And it's Tim Hardaway junior like those guys aren't guarding your big wings in the playoff series. Yeah I don't want to share anywhere near Luca I know. He's like on killing it right now though he's doing really good he suppresses energy Aj. But like I do worry in a playoff series in the bright lights are on all of a sudden. He's taking more shots than should I might. He just sub because he's playing Like the mavs like asking the guard like Bradley. Beal in the Bron- that right there tells you this team was championship solution. Yeah Yeah Yeah and I think this is a good segue to our next mavs related question which is from rhinos seventy-seven What move should the mavericks due to take them over the top and become become a championship contender? Do you have any thoughts. Yeah I mean it goes back to that Utah Conversation again like they need a three d wings on a guard. Lebron coli But everyone needs that. Like those guys aren't available and trades. Yeah I feel like if you were doing a segment on each team we would end up kind of just mentioning three wing. Wing Ism Boyd. Except for the clippers. Quietly those guys like centers like thirty years ago where it was like. Get at your big center to guard the pose. And that was the franchise player. Now it's at at six eight. Do everything wing without that kind of player. It's just tough layer in the playoffs. Yeah I wrote down a couple possible suggestions. One which I think is actually kinda doable. especially if it's not a trait it's more of a buyout. What about Andrea Dollar? I'd love him in Dallas. I feel like though he's prime good. La I don't think he wants to live in Dallas that his age. It's not a hot spot for someone like him. I mean he's a silicon valley magnet. Now he's we're not construe as it needs to be closer to his tech connections. Yeah I probably come via trade one of the big issues with the mavs and with this question in general so is what did the mavs really have in terms of assets. They have their twenty twenty one. I and they're twenty twenty three. I do chew the Knicks which means they can't trade and he pick until I believe twenty twenty five they can work with swap rights. But outside of that you really dealing from the core and in terms of younger assets. That's the teams would want. It's really what Jalen Brunson. Maybe it's really Jalen Brunson and I you know. I think he's pretty good but he's been like in the back burned last few weeks. He's kind of lost out with teams. been reshuffled so he played like three minutes the other night. Like how are you going to be a trade peace. That's again right. And he doesn't have the pedigree degree of someone like who could a round pick. Yeah Yeah I mean Dhillon right is another guy but as you mentioned. He's a bigger piece of what they're doing now and not a great shooter and I don't know the lawns that it'd be a big trade ship either true true. Let me throw this out as you just on kind of like the the lower level. What what about Frankie smokes? I've been saying for a while when he frankie he'd be perfect in Dallas. Could that team euro thing. I'm.

"To compete for the number one seed in the west and also like he seemed like a free clear-cut MVP candidate. I'm a little concerned about him. MM-HMM SO I might put him in the Cheer Below Zion and I think that's when you're talking about embiid crm. I might even throw in Ben Simmons. I hate to be The ringer employee here. But a where's Jason Tatum. And all of this because he's looking really good recently charts guy. I can't even take credit for him. I was is really hard on him earlier for the draft. He's good but to me. Him and Jalen Brown are pretty close. I'm not sure tatum. That much brown honestly. I think the two way potential of Jason Tatum. 'cause we're just thinking about a player to build around right And Al Get tatum. And you look at a player. Like Ben Simmons. Ben Simmons you can see the ceiling ailing if he develops a jump shot. That might raise the ceiling but not too much Jason. Tatum his ceiling is. I don't know Paul George. I don't know about that. You say that I like to me. TATUM passing the ball. I think of him and that kind of player. I think he's at right now. Well two point five assists that's a career high for him like that number up before talking about crm to me is getting up there. Like what can I do on the court. These days. He's guarding position. He skipped scoring. Willie's passing assing is defending. He's shooting you always becoming a legit. Yes trolling bead right. Yeah right Oh just to see the best Cameroonian player in the NBA Pasquale Kausikan. So this is a tough one. We're coming off a match up last night where they did win that battle Siaka managed to shut down the sixers late in that that game scored a big bucket. Shut down Allay possession from the sixers and then took an outlet pass and dunked it as time expires to really punctuate the win and also also gave I assume it was in b but also the sixers in general. "I think I had him ranked twelfth or thirteenth in the fourteen drafts. I think the main thing that I'm a little surprised about is that over the years. His defense has not been quite as good as it was at the college level in college. He was a consistently high effort defender and part of that was the level of competition. But one thing he always gave was intense effort. And maybe maybe part of that is like the circumstances. He's been part of Orlando Phoenix New Orleans, not all like having horrible seasons. But he's never been on a good contending team. Maybe it's been his environment. I don't know. I would be curious to see him in a role where he's not he's always been a starter to for the most part. I would like to see him in a role where he can come off the bench. A winning team and get back to what he wasn't college and on a high level where he did. Right. He did defend any did rebound. He's a great would if because as you're talking about him he's been with all these rat teams. What if he's a spur? You know, what I'm saying what if they get them with their shooting coach? And what if they get within that system, which he looked kinda guy that would fit within something like that that maybe maybe it's all different, you know, so much of these guys success and failure can be dependent upon how they fit out and who they get drafted by. But I haven't given up on him completely. And he's obviously had a good voice on earth with him his rookie year magical in twenty five games had to head coaches. They won thirty five games the second season twenty nine games his third season. And then he got traded from Orlando to Phoenix his fourth season. So losing count right here. But I believe he's had a different coach every single season of his NBA career. And he's never been on a winner. Either. I believe that's the case Vaughn Borrego skylines Vogel. Then he got traded the Phoenix, and then he signed with New Orleans this offseason. So I pretty sure a different coach every year of his career. That's crazy. So certainly wanted to highlight him because five consecutive triple doubles. It's quite the accomplishment in terms of games that are going out tonight. Let's quickly talk about the NBA watch of the night. It is the Lakers at the bucks on NBA TV. It's eight PM eastern time, which would have been I'm certain that we would have circled this a few months ago as a monster game down the stretch. Instead virtue of what is the Lakers. It is not necessarily a monster game yet, it will feature Janas who all eyes are on because he might very well be the MVP. We're going to be talking about if any of the awards can be decided in these last twelve games in a moment. But Lakers books tonight NBA TV at eight pm. What intrigues you? I think more than anything else. Chris. It's the poetic aspect of this game. Where here we have Jano sensitive Kumho who is possibly the MVP leading the one seeded bucks into the postseason where they could make a finals run, maybe win the finals with Jaanus. And then here we have LeBron James who was going to miss the postseason for the first time since his second season in the league the oh four oh five season for the first time since then, and he's looking older he got blocked the other night by Mario his own. Yeah..

"Does right now what do you think certainly a possibility last night we saw villanova take twenty seven of their thirty seven shots for three so that's nearly half and the houston rockets in the nba do take fifty one point one percent of their shots from three like just over half so villanova certainly does run what resembles an nba offense which made less sense game especially especially exciting to watch and the guy who took advantage of that chris dante even though unbelievable homes by him yeah for your purposes because i know you spend a lot of time evaluating players for in upcoming nba draft for your purposes does them being able to it doesn't feel like evaluation might be able to get a little bit easier if college more mirrored what the nba looks like because that's been one of the real challenges right with so many of these cases how does it translate to the next i mean i would love for more of the things to be adopted obviously the line is shorter but especially defensive three seconds if i could have anything that would be the thing that i would take out of college basketball that would help with evaluation for the next level i would think in terms of driving lanes in terms of guys not being able to just stand right in front of the stupid basket but do you know don't you think that if villa if more team started looking like villanova may be the evaluation process gets a little bit easier that struck me last night maybe but also maybe not because the skill levels is close on par is nba basketball understand but you know i think you know moving the three point line out to the nba distance would help you know adding defensive three second violations to make pains run less zone that would help as well as a shot clock as well there's those a long list of things really here's saying i'm watching villanova last night and i think you can watch those guys this is just me i watch those guys and i i don't think it's.

"As regards very slightly so the thing is is they need to change the roster and if they're going to do that then may put immense pick on the table but i don't think they should put the netts pick on the table because i think that's more valuable to them looking over the next four or five years than it is to anybody else very strange situation to because of the guy that put together the construct of that team you know there's all these stories coming out that the owners having more say in things than in the past and i think people felt like david and driven yeah the dead they griffin was in charge and you know that was such a strange story a team that had been to the nba finals uh the amount of times that they had and and then swung that massive deal where they were going to be making a big change over the summer and now so the guy that like kinda put this altogether and it was his vision at least in some way he's not there anymore right and and they went out there you remember they weren't tried to get tanti billips you look at you go boy i guess he is in a which are the ability an wonder why i wonder why her right right and so now it'll be very fair saying to see what they do at this trade deadline because i feel like we had kind of a beat on them and it at least had a feeling about uh about griffin and kind of his thoughts on things in the way he constructed rosters i mean i have no idea where you start or what you do if you're the cavaliers because outside of signing guys the get waived their cut this is your opportunity to change things to improve this team and inevitably will have to happen a you know if it's gonna happen at a big way by thursday right it's interesting with cleveland because it's pretty clear that the relationship with between broaden the angle british probably one of the reasons with the poor relationship that he might have right though the cavaliers i don't think there's anything view of.
