"A sports report. Now with Steve Baker, the 40 Niners injury list continues to grow like no other. The latest casualties from Sunday nights went over the Rams. Include lead running back Raheem Mostert with a high ankle sprain and center Ben Garland with a calf strain, both likely headed for the I R, which means they'd miss a minimum of three games. Mostar has already missed 2.5 games with an M C. L sprain. He's averaging six yards of carrion 13.5 yards or reception. Trent Williams and Jack Whiskey Tart questionable for Sunday's game into England. Williams with an ankle tart, a groin tepid. Coleman's already missed four games with an M C. L sprain, and he won't return Sunday. The Niners running game is down to Jerick McKinnon, rookie Jermichael Hasty and maybe Jeff Wilson, who is questionable with a calf strain. Overly Jeff returns this week. You know, he had a take half last week, so hopefully help you get to go on Wednesday. We'll see. Kevin, I think will be a long shot and always eligible to come back this week have a feeling Be another week, but we'll wait and see hold out hope for them to the weak, But those are choices. Kyle Shanahan is already without Richard Sherman, D. Ford, Kwon Alexander Cohen, Williams, Jordan Breed Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas. It might be quicker to run down the names of healthy players. That list includes 29 year old thoroughness Grasu who will start its center on Sunday at the Sports Desk. Steve Baker KCBS. Ah, so sick, honey,.

"Except for two or three bad plays, I've been really good this year. That's the difference between a really good player and a piece of crap player is two or three plays a game. If you can't stop those, you're not any good. The good players do not have those. They don't have plays where you completely miss your block in your side of the field. The quarterback gets hit and fumbles the ball away and your team loses it. They don't have plays where when your you're teams trying to throw a thirty yard pass at the end of the game to try to win, you can't slow down you're. Man Enough. For Your quarterback to make Damn Hail Mary to the end zone at the end of the game. That's the difference between a good team and a bad team two or three plays from everybody and if you don't get that, then you shouldn't have the job that you have i. don't even know where to start with what he said because every step of the way it was like, what are you talking about? I mean, we we can start with you know as he said one or two in reality it's two or three. He was downplaying it like you would probably want to. But like you said, you can't you can't do that and I think the biggest difference for him is even if you want to say he only has two or three bad place which I would argue he has more than that. But. If you WANNA say only has two or three, his are so agreed. Bad. that it takes it to a whole `nother level. There's a difference between having a bad play where you beat but at least you kind of pushed the guy to the outside, make him come around a long way gives a quarterback time. He's not even doing that when he messes up on a play he whiffs and he gives a free shop. I it is terrible. It's as bad of a snap as you can be, and he has two or three of those in a game. That's horrendous. That's if you weren't a first round, pick your, it'd be on the sideline. Me Let's be honest here. If he wasn't a first round pick, he probably would be on the sideline. But then you also get into. You know all these thirty second clutch. No, it's only thirty clip because he had to put something on twitter mean. We Watch the Games. Even. A casual fan can watch the game and go holy crap. That's a bad offensive line. Even a casual fan can watch the Games and go wow that whoever that right tackle is getting beat constantly. Its heart. It's that bad it's not hard. I don't know. Yeah. There's a thirty second clip on twitter that's just showing what the problem is. It's not saying this is the only play. If, you want all the place boasted. I if twitter can take all that. Yeah. The problem only thirty seconds by no I think he's right in that. We don't always know which guy the linemen is responsible for based on the front and the play that you're running. But when I see you one on one with a guy and there's nobody else around and he blows past you like. The bowl. He looks like the bowl with the Cape You. Right that's I don't need to know the play call for that. Clearly, that's you screwing up. So it just but it's not I don't mean to just focus grinchey because that comment pissed me off but Trent Williams last week. Oh, except two or three plays in two or three penalties I had a clean sheet paths protection like dude. What is with this team Levin? How can you keep saying safe for one or two plays? I did a good job light do they not understand how many close games that they play last year that they won because they made those two or three plays now all of a sudden they don't matter. You can just throw those aside like where'd this mindset come from? And I don't get it because this team. Of. Pretty much all the teams should know the value one play because they lost the super bowl because of one boneheaded play on defense. If that tyreek hill deep ball doesn't happen they're super bowl champions and there's no more of this quest for six and I would think that the fan base is still in their euphoria of a super bowl win. So the niners being two and three wooden matter as much as it does now. Yet. Here's the team I. Mean I I don't get it you they should know. More than any other team, the value one play can half and when that one play in this scenario is the quarterback getting destroyed. put it. I mean. What do you talk about your job is to make sure the quarterback doesn't get hit let alone get annihilated with a free shot. So that's simple I don't understand that whole mindset I. mean you talking about one play look they became the number one seed one play that stop on fourth down where they kept one inch tuna goal line like literally one play the last play of the regular season. I don't understand how these guys can keep saying that I'm assuming when they go and watch the film the coaches are saying, Hey, you got blown up on this rep that sucks. You can't do that anymore and I don't know Levin is if it is it a Kyle Shanahan issues that what he's telling, you guys like trying to pump them up like, Hey, you're not as bad as everyone's saying, we just gotTa. Shore up a couple of things, and then we're good but if That message from coming is coming from him. It's the wrong message right now because it's clearly not helping I don't know what Kyle saying behind closed doors he could be having a different tone behind closed doors nobody knows. But what he's saying to the media is a very, very, very similar tone. So it could be these guys just mimicking that. Hey, I gotta deal with the media I mean we all know there's very few players who cared a deal with the media very few. So they might just be mimicking what their coach is doing to the media to get through it. But that's the wrong thing because it allows them to have an excuse and you don't want excuses they need to be saying the coaching to be saying we. It's that simple. I'm making you use your bleep button because I think it's important to stress the point that. They are messing up that that's all there is to it, and they need to admit that because admitting it.

"Talking about the 40 Niners. Kyle Shanahan, the offensive coordinator, The Atlanta Falcons leading Julio like you mentioned Go to San Francisco and slowly build that team into who they are. When AKI's old teams the Bucks are leading the NFC South. Yeah, they are for real. They're for real, and they're goingto make a strong push with New Orleans the win that division and when they win the division They'll make a strong push because Tom Brady knows howto win in the playoffs. It's so when you look at Bruce Aaron's You look a top bulls Byron Leftwich. From a coaching standpoint, they kind of now starting to settle in to what this team is. This team is not about Tom Brady as much as it is about playing defense, running the football and allowing Tom Brady do similar. What I just said about the Chicago Bears, which is we know you're not going to make a mistake. We're not worried about you throwing 30 interceptions. But that's the least of our worries. We need you to make a few big throws. We're gonna get the ball back for you on defense. We will cut the film down in half, so you don't have to go the length of the field. We're gonna give you a sharp field as many times as possible. You just do your part will play defense will run the ball and we'll keep stacking up. Yes, his predecessor was known indeed for throwing.

Here's your sports line with Kevin ravage the world's flipped upside down with Andy Reid in the chief's running the ball 46 times for 245 yards. In their 26 17 win a Buffalo the most rushing attempts by an Andy Reid coach team in his career. Kyle Shanahan would certainly approve the 40 Niners ran the ball 37 times for 122 yards. In their 24 16 went over the Rams not the same kind of run production. But it was instructive that when the Niners rush for more than 30 times under Kyle Shanahan in games They are 11 and no. The number of carries its A very good team stat. Sometimes it seems like oh, you must have ran the ball roll. Well, though I did good running back. They're good, and I don't always see it that way. I think it's a full commitment just to play. Very good, complementary football. It really helps you stick with the run is a play caller. The only way you could do that, though, is if you take the whole totality of the gay men, and you start to understand how the defense is playing and stuff. And that's what's fun for a play Callers when you can keep sticking with that, because you got a lot of confidence in your old team, and not just what you're doing on offense. The problem is the running backs are now banged up with Brahim most likely to go on I R after reinjuring his ankle. He has a high ankle sprain. Jeff Wilson's coming off an injury. The top waiver-wire pickups for Week 3 of fantasy football

"Tap waiver wire picked for me this week. Is going to be 40 Niners runningback Jerick. McKinnon makes sense. McKinnon is available currently in 73% of ESPN League, so widely available and with the most injury, coupled With Kevin Coleman also being gone for a couple of weeks. This seems like an opportunity for the big free agent signing for Kyle Shanahan Step up and have Ah productive week and at least for a couple of weeks. I think he's the at least for this week. I think he's definitely the best ad long term. Maybe not because most it will return. So if you're just looking for help for this week, maybe a couple of weeks. Jerick. McKinnon is your best bet this week on the planet Jets, other playing A. Who cares? The Giants there. Still, I stayed in New York and you look the Giants Steelers. The Bears have run the ball on the Giants, and they stayed in New York. They're playing the Giants, so I would think that that's they're going to try to ground and pound. This is saline advice is always from the update and grapple is positive, right? Like they think he's gonna play? Yes, Okay again, though, it's it's obviously Tuesday, so it's hard to say anything definitively. But my cannon is the top waiver wire pick up, especially If you're hurting at running back, and if you have sake one if he had most, sir, if you had McCaffrey, and now you're starting to Sergio. Look, Yorgos got to start Jamal Williams from crying out. I got Jamal waves in my story. You might be hitting your waiver wire to pick up Jack Kennedy on the can, For sure, he's gone in one of my All right. Who else? Hide Let me fire Rams running back. Donald Henderson was highly drafted. You have Malcolm Brown, who left last week's game with a finger injury, along with Who's the other Ocampa and left with a rib injury as well. So Darnell Henderson stepped in. I think I believe you had 80 total yards from scrimmage. So Donald Henderson is my second ad. He is available in 54% of leagues. 50 44. That's good Darnell game this week. Rams and Bill's about it to Owen omits to know that those of a good man, that's an exciting game. This's now I'll give you a couple of guys right here. One's more of a long term play. The other is going to be a better bet. Immediately, but probably not for the long term. Joshua Kelly, Los Angeles Chargers, he is it looks like he has stepped right into the Melvin Gordon roll from last season. Austin Heckler obviously, is the main running back that you want with the Chargers. Things were better. With Justin Herbert under center. It's undeniable. Tyrod Taylor comes back. I'm I'm not nearly as enthused, but I have a hard time believing Anthony Lynn is just going to give the ball back to Tyrod Taylor. If Justin Herbert continues to be productive, why

"Up weak, too. Showcasing Las Vegas league was coming down hard on those Who haven't been following protocol. New York Giants Confirm Saquon Barkley Tore ACL, Out For The Season

"There are terrible injuries all over the NFL yesterday alone. Nick. Bosa. From the niners Saquon Barkley from the giants both suffered torn ACL statistics show that through two weeks nfl record twice as many significant injuries as last year. It's actually at least six players suffered a torn acl including just recently Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bruce Irvin Eleven, injuries to starters in the one o'clock games alone John Do you think these injuries have something to do with the fact that there were no preseason games. Well. For example, the Rams don't play any of their starters in preseason games I think is in the spirit of your question i. think it has something to do with no camp no real camp they kind of shotgun training camp and I don't know how you could make the opposite argument that it has nothing to do with it. I wouldn't tied to preseason games what I would do it to the fact that there was very little tackling. Yes in. The game started and the other thing is I know Kyle Shanahan the niners felt like the field wasn't ready like the field I think he played in the meadowlands and he's got play there again next week because he played the jets and now he's GonNa, play the giants. Players on both teams going down. So I don't necessarily think that the facilities were one hundred percent prepared either I think again, I think the spirit of your question is the fact that they fast tracked everything and started the season. Because of Covid is that having any do with the injuries I don't know how you could say it doesn't I think it has to yeah. I mean I I completely agree I mean between training camp and preseason games where guys at least get a sense for what they get a reminder of what getting hit is like. I think they're I think they would be better off. It is an extraordinary number of injuries and none worse than Christian McCaffrey who's gone for four to six weeks and his the stalwart of my fantasy team just loyal to John Ireland how about? Yeah. I cleaned your clock thinking Matt Ryan. But. How about how about Saquon out for the year? Yeah. Entirely out for the year Bosa gone for the with a tornado. And that means that the giants I. It might be a race between the giants and the jets who the worst team football is. The whole new. York City area has to just garbage football teams because the jets are a mess and now the giants have no running game. So it's going to have it's going to have after-effects. All these

Would Tom Brady to the 49ers make any sense?

"NBC. Sports Boston's Tom. Curran told our old friend Chris Mad Dog Russo on his radio. Show that the chatter chatter connecting. Tom Brady to the forty niners as quote real now again. I heard that in India by the way before went on the air and said it. I had heard that Which I dismissed it as A. That's ridiculous and then I would assume the heard it as well and because he's a master at disseminating information played it. As you know I got an idea. This is crazy but out here you know but that that was as early as Friday Thursday. That was kicking around here. Jimmy Garoppolo the details of it are pretty fascinating the time that current said it was from both sides. Oh of course. Tom Brady wants to play for the forty niners. He's looking around the league possible teams to play for that. I can't come up with a better pick. Not just because he is his favourite teammate. And I mean that's the starting point. The next would be how how good they are and how Santa me everything's raincoat. And the fact that the forty niners have some mutual interest. According to this report is what and put yourself Garoppolo shoes. You have a really. You got traded from Tom. Brady's team across the country. You have this great ending to the season with the niners. Then you play your Tom Brady in two thousand nineteen you blow out your knee. Very frustrating comeback. You improve as a player. Maybe you're not all the way there where you're superstar. Maybe you'll never be that guy but you have a better season than Tom Brady. Your team goes to the Super Bowl and has a double digit lead in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl. And now you're hearing that the guy that you had go three thousand miles across the country to get out from under Mike. Come back to you. That's a tough situation stinks. But I would say that you look back when the trade happened. There were whispers that the forty niners had inquired about Tom. Brady not even whispered. I mean that was out there. And secondly if you're Tom Brady and you you're gonNA leave Josh mcdaniels in this embedded patriots environment for team x and you have no idea what really is happening to the one team. I could trust if I'm Tom Brady going teaming with Kyle Shanahan and seen how that two year process will play out the first one where I thought this is the first brady remember. It makes sense on his side. I don't know how it makes sense for the forty niners but it does make sense for Tom. Brady well there. There is thought that Jimmy G. Kyle Shanahan you know aren't a perfect match where he's not doing what? Kyle wants reading answers on every play and that maybe Jimmy G. doesn't always have the answers wash the fourth super bowl. Look if you're trying to compare the ability to win before the snap or the mental ability of quarterback comparing someone at Tom Brady. You're not going to end up looking great but I think that's some one where Kyle Shanahan would look. That's the advantage that Tom Brady would give to them that he would. He would know all the answers and and as crazy as it is. I mean I'm not putting this as like it's the answer but pf for instance. Had Tom Brady as a much higher rated quarterback last year and. I don't think that's crazy. I think Tom Brady led similar or better level. Brady's entire two thousand nine hundred thousand season under the microscope that Jimmy. Jeez fourth quarter was has been under. And you're going to see a guy who failed over and over again with the New England. Patriots feels tremendously shortsighted. If the niners went this route I mean Brady is going to be what forty three and August. He's showing signs of slippage. Garoppolo is a guy that still in his twenties. What is take? That doesn't make sense right. What what do you do in two thousand? Twenty three cents. I think if you have to think long you don't because if you're Kyle Shanahan you're up twenty eight to three in the Super Bowl you'll lose. And now what are the Falcons? They've never been back. They're not the same your window. That's the thing that's you know. I experienced it from two years ago with the chargers. At twelve and four beating the ravens going New England. It's tied at seven. You feel like okay this is great than Brady gets the best of you. You come back following year and people are picking win the Super Bowl to win the division. You've already be Patrick mahomes once maybe you figured it out with Derwyn Jones and it falls apart. You can't like there is no law window in the NFL FAST. But the so just go get it. Go Win the one championship and worry about one mile scenario to also just indicate that they don't that Jimmy Garoppolo is someone that they're invalid about long-term because I think there is a. There are a number of quarterbacks are there are situations where of course they would not want to jump off a guy in his twenties but if they considered a move. Like saying this one specific. Don't feel great about Jimmy D but I'll tell ya I'll tell you who is excited about this. I mean If there is a perfect situation or to get patriots this is it. I mean this is this is this is. This is what I as a selfish fan would have wanted. I I've said on this podcast. I don't WanNa see. Tom Brady played poorly in any uniform. But I'd rather have played poorly in another uniform and the Patriots and this this story here at least I would think we talk about Patriots fans all the time. It's all you ever bring up. I wish I could jump off of it but this would bring me back in. I mean I think it comes down to this. This cow Shanahan Jimmy. Garoppolo holds them back right now and if he does then sense to look into it. I guess if you're interested US coachspeak but they absolutely believe it is is a better than guy be do. I think my team has a better chance on a super bowl with Tom. Brady or Jimmy Garoppolo next year. Because if I believe. It's Tom Brady. Guess WHO's coming to play quarterback Tom Brady. This is too good having that some pink upright there Jimmy G. wants back with the Patriots as starter. I'm I mean you can't just sell that down the river as an organic happening that feels to me like a prepackaged preplanned plot hatched years

What one thing Kyle Shanahan would have done differently in Super Bowl

"Shanahan first public comments post the Super Bowl indicating he thinks the way they ended the first half was one of the reasons why they were up in the in the fourth quarter quote. I think that's one of the reasons why we're up. Ten in the fourth quarter and quote also thinks Jimmy Garoppolo one of the main reasons they got the super bowl quote. Jimmy is one of the main reasons we got the super bowl times by pal shot at hand. I'm telling the first comment obviously defend his quarterback. Doc Look no one's defended. Shane had play calling for the last few days. More than me. I think the criticism of him throwing the ball has been way overblown. But I'm still critical of of how we handle the end of that first half yes. It's why they were up ten but I do believe he should of anticipation that Patrick mahomes against gas line of Defense in the fourth quarter was a bad bad matchup and they should have tried to take the point when their offense and the defense. We're both dominating capital Biracial Shannon. I'm buying this is exactly what you want to hear. The leader is conviction. You don't need him lamenting this loss. Nothing's going to change. Don't keep watching the titanic over and over again as for starting next year. Of course you should. He's not not only was a good game manager but he had the best pass completion last year referring to Emmanuel Sanders. WHO said he's already watched the Super Bowl five or six times and every time? It's like watching the titanic padded down. Frank do you know that feeling by herself. Shanahan year his goal was not to give the ball back at the end of the first half. Let's remember the offensive offensive. Pass interference call. They should have been down there kicking a field goal going ahead by three points. The issue was those two drives after. San Francisco's I'm sorry after the Kansas City scored that was the issue in the fourth quarter. They did not lose a game in the first half. I don't have a problem with it and bob run a CELENA BY I. AM selling the nonsense agenda. Have I remember sitting here thinking Tom. Brady's watching this going for a minute. Forty three time outs give it to me. Give it to me. Every coach in the League was saying. What are you doing Janet? Hey and you're asking. What are you doing Bob? I have to say respectively. I'm selling you. What were you doing with your super bowl? Pick because they never came in. You never made a super bowl pick right here except Francisco within Cisco Forty niners. Here's your deduction Emily Kaplan. I mean this was not blackstone but about as good as you can do it as well. You're here you're super bowl. Pick and we move on fire sale to raptors one nineteen pacers one eighteenth the champs who you can never talk about coming coming back from nineteen down to get the win. They now have won twelve straight if a defending champion warriors team where he teamed one twelfth. You'd be writing love sonnets. In IAMBIC pentameter

Junior is with us. Good morning someone needs to be on my side and commercial breaks I. I have chosen you my friend. That Guy Welcome to team Chad. All right here we go three years ago following a super bowl loss to the Patriots. So then Falcons offensive coordinator Shanahan stepped off the team plane. Having blown the biggest super bowl lead of all time yesterday. The niners now head coach Paul Shannon and had to make that dreaded walk once again niners all pro China and George cadle said quote it was brutal to see Shannon hurting after their loss naked. We Chess Watch Kyle Shanahan blow yet another super bowl. Oh this one's painful is the guy I've been calling the best offensive line football all year. Long Andy d read neck and neck and one does fear that he just inherited from Andy Reid. The monkey that was on the title of Brilliant Offensive Line Brilliant play designer and yet has some really odd tendencies in the biggest of spots. And so. Here's the thing. I can't say Shane and blew the game for them. Kyle Shanahan designed the game plan. That had him up. Twenty to ten right kyle. Shanahan did a lot of really good things and made the most of what I consider to be a very limited quarterback but much like that Atlanta Super Bowl. There are a couple specific moments that you look at and you say man. What are you thinking and the end of the the first half is a coaching travesty? And I know coach will tell me why I'm wrong but you won't John Lynch who was begging for the same time out. The whole world was and and the message is sent to every phase of his team quarterback..

"But now Kyle Shanahan who is mind you one of the most if not the most brilliant young mind in the NFL thank you I he is a tremendous tremendous head coach so I don't put this on him but there's something not here there's something very odd he's been to two super bowls and those are the two super bowls with the two biggest collapses second half collapses yeah he was the offense of coordinator with Atlanta and the falcons for years ago when now when they were up twenty eight to three in the second half and then in in Tom Brady led the charge and then of course last night there up twenty to ten with eight minutes to go seven minutes ago they're up twenty to ten and they they

The Chiefs Win the Super Bowl and the Niners Blow It, With Cousin Sal

"Did the chiefs witness or did the niners lose this. And if the answer is both what is your percentage split. Okay well it has to be both. It has to be both because it's no coincidence. That now mahomes five and in games that he's been down double digits so you got that but it's also no coincidence that Kyle Shanahan in his last fourth quarter Super Bowl drives that he's called. Yeah as gone three and fumble six and pont. I'm stealing this off the Internet him. Sorry for whoever did this foreign pont five point three and pont seven turnover downs to an interception. ooh though I wanNA say San Francisco some as a sixty forty San Francisco right there is that fair. Well you left out the part that in his last two fourth quarter overtimes. Where's the offensive coordinator for the Falcons Against Patriots? The other time outscored forty six to nothing. Yeah I look at it this way you know. I had the big bet for plus three seventy five before the playoffs on San Francisco. It's twenty ten. They get a pick. There's twelve minutes left. They have a phenomenal running game that ends up finishing the game running for seven yards a carry. Yep like twenty twenty one carries the one hundred forty plus yards. I felt like the game was over. And I know Mahomes is on the other side line and they've come back twice but they have literally literally the perfect team in the league to run out a game like that up ten with more with momentum with everything you want and the play action was working And they had really figured out a way to control the pace and when you look at those last three drives it felt like that she switches sending the house and and like screen passes. Were there just all kinds of things that were false starts in the manner side not running when they should have one Bad plays as and I. I don't I never liked to use the word choke with sports because these guys are much better than we are but they've really blew it. That is one of in one of the all time and we blew it super bowl losses. In my opinion I thought they right. They kept their foot off the gas and first of all it happened at the beginning. The end of the first half an in what happened with that time management there will chant ended. DidN'T WANNA use a timeout. Looked like he was just happy content to go in the locker room ten ten yet but then gets a first down like to the forty about right and then as timeouts and then the drives fizzles but who knows if you start that drive. What one one twenty seven instead of like thirty seven? It's a different story. So yes we hold that thought right but so it's a key moment for a couple reasons. One they don't call time out before the chiefs chiefs punt so another forty seconds runoff by the time they get it. There's a little under a minute. Left there on their twenty. I was watching it thinking. They're so afraid of the chiefs chiefs. They they don't even want to leave a scenario where mahomes might get the ball back with thirty seconds left to reverse but at the same time if you look at the way they played pretty much this entire Gabe it was really kinda playing not to lose you. Know they had feel goes over and over again and they had a lot of like third and five and third and four zero where they you know they technically. If you're really going for the jugglers down territory at least a couple times. They're always happy to settle settled for three. The fourth in two was pretty egregious in the second half just because I don't know that I never felt like they try to grab the game by its throat. And and you need points to beat the chiefs team but when you think about the first forty eight minutes of that game it could have gone better for them because they didn't try to grabbed game by the throat but they're still sitting there with the lead up ten with the ball with the running game. That's gashing the chiefs and I think it's a colossal. We blew it lost. Like even if you go back to the Seattle pats game where Where the Malcolm Butler pick Seattle was still making plays to win that game? You know the pats came down. I'm from ten same way but Seattle is still like throwing haymakers back. They got that huge pass on the on the crazy long ball down the field that set up the Lynch played. You know I I just felt like the niners really rolled over the last ten minutes. And that's before we get to the defensive side of thing. It was really rough. I kind of in disbelief. That they'd when Super Bowl. I know you're bummed but I'm thinking about this from the other way. I think like I think he'd wake up tomorrow. Morning more bummed if Jimmy G. drove his team down the field this guy you got a second round pick forward we added for and won that game. You would've won money but all the Jimmy Jeez better than Brady. What's Brady doing? Brady inserts himself. In commercials is yeah. The Patriots are pathetic. I think we would have heard that would have been the narrative if the forty niners at one that starts a you know either way. I think we're going to start talk about starting earning a dynasty and I feel like we'll get we'll talk about odds next year's odds men and I'm sure but Patrick Mahomes is starting that right when you have a quarterback that just comes comes back. It doesn't really matter what's going on. Seems to not get flustered at all. Yeah that's a scary scary team. But I wanNA give the chiefs a little credit their running game the the biggest Sucker bat was like the forty niners minus thirty three and a half yards. I think it was thirty. Six thirty three right in there over the Chiefs it ended up one forty one to one twenty nine San Francisco and that's misleading. Because Patrick Mahomes in one of the worst Super Bowl bad had beats I can remember had forty four yards before he kneeled down has over on the twenty nine and a half for loss. Fifteen yard three kneel. Downs ended up with twenty twenty nine. So they really did have more rushing yards and San Francisco and you never ever would've thought that and that that's why they won the game that and the third and fifteen play I thought in the fourth quarter. It was why they want. I WANNA go back later to all the things the niners did wrong. And you're right. We should praise the chiefs. They had an awesome come for behind victory. They think were what the fifth team to win a super bowl. Where at some point in the playoffs they were down ten? I remember seeing that that tweet somewhere hold on. Let me find that ten three times. Scott Scott Caz Mar he said Only four out of fifty three super bowl. Oh winners trailed by ten in the playoffs until tonight. Nineteen seventy six raiders. Down Eleven to New England. The Sugar Sugar Bear Ham at the game. The first horrible horrible football US ever had two thousand one patriots snow game. Some people got Tuck rule game called Snow Game. Two Thousand Fourteen Patriots Seattle Two thousand hasn't Sixteen Patriots Atlanta Down Nineteen the Patriots. Were somehow involved all four times. This happened until Nice until today. So now we're talking five out of fifty three where they've trailed by ten plus and the chiefs became the fifth team to do it. So there you go so I They deserve it. They're the best. I think they're the best right. Ravens got picked off bad job by them chiefs to the best

Super Bowl 54 Recap

"Kansas City Thirty One San Francisco Twenty air it. It is Mitchell as he's been waited his whole damn life to make that call and cheese fans. They've been waiting fifty years for their team to Hoist Lombardi and it finally finally happened on this. The second of February two thousand twenty the Kansas City chiefs are the super bowl champions after that thirty one to twenty win over the San the average Cisco Forty nine dollars a game in which they were down like they were all their postseason games by double digits. This time in the fourth quarter and yet Patrick Mahomes and company would not not be denied. Dan Heads here the around the NFL podcast presented by little caesars. And yes I'm coming to you from a hard rock stadium that is filled with heroes mark. Sesser Chris Wesseling and Greg Rosenthal. What is up boys? Hey Dan still filled with some chiefs fans and employs employs. Usually I feel like we start the taping after midnight. got going a little quicker like there's still an MVP chant going on the exciting. These fans. Don't WANNA leave. They've waited. You know half a century for this. Yeah usually when we're here it feels like we're ghosts like passing passing through a stadium and and and you can't. You're not sure if you're humid or not until you get back to the hotel but in this case where here. The field is is covered in confetti. Where on the third level the really Nice hardrock stadium here in Miami was great Super Bowl Week? A lot of fun a great city for a super bowl the eleventh and Super Bowl in this area which is most just past New Orleans and If you're a cheese fan this was the dream come come true and I got to watch the second half of this game in the seats With my cousin Matt and I just you know watching an older gentleman guy looked like he was in his fifties with his wife Cheese FAN IN JERSEY. As that game it became clear. After obviously the Damian will even before the Damian Williams run that clinched it it was becoming clear then the Williams touchdown and then there was this release. Like Oh my God the chiefs are GonNa win the Super Bowl and it was a well-earned win and one that didn't look particularly like it was heading in this direction even halfway through the fourth. That's quarter the chiefs to me. Their players and coach Kinda remind me of the fans. It's been so long since they got that Super Bowl in Randy read. It's been so long a guy like Frank Clark find his way there. Honey Badger finds his way to Kansas City to make this happen. Terrell suggs is lucky enough to come along for the ride at the end of the year. A lot of I just find their way to Kansas City and end up winning this one and you're right fourth quarter at midway through the fourth quarter forty nine hundred ninety five point six percent win probability. I know that's not your stat. The latest evidence that people need to stop talking about win probability it means nothing other than a twitter talking boy. It means it means it's unlikely the other team's GonNa win and now know Kyle Shanahan. Would it peaked at about ninety nine point wait. Six percent against the Patriots early in the fourth quarter always had ninety five point six percent. The percentage. I don't think takes into account Patrick Mahomes uh-huh it just doesn't or the chiefs offense or Andy Reid like the way that you have to dominate Patrick mahomes and make his life. If uncomfortable for sixty minutes I think is the hardest thing to do in the NFL. The forty niners balled out on defense. Not Unlike I believe the the Seahawks balled out on defense against the broncos. They did so many things right for the first three quarters. I think in a lot of scenarios and with a lot of quarterbacks that game would have been twenty seven to six at with eight minutes left in the fourth quarter and they're never could've been a comeback but mahomes got out of a lot of plays blaze. That could have gone worse. He had a lot of negative. Plays the chiefs defense. Did just enough and it just shows you. Yeah you can. You can do a lot while. They held him to five point three yards per play which is a very very low number for the chiefs and she's still put up thirty one points in nine drives. They barely have the ball. They still went over not surprising. Because that's what they've been doing for for months and months and if we had one kernel of information going into the for the last two weeks to to base our analysis on that the chiefs and Patrick Mahomes I would open the third quarter with back to back picks by Patrick Mahomes and that the niners would be nestling a twenty two ten lead minutes into into the fourth. You would think this is a perfect setup for San Francisco to run away with this thing but if you give Patrick Mahomes even ten minutes to operate and it gets hot. Aw everything's off the table. Fifty fifty two and a half minutes of game time the niners down day and I remember thinking as has the game was reaching as it's ticking through the fourth quarter and they have a twenty two ten lead and thinking what made the chief. So unstoppable all when they were humming the regular season but especially in those two comebacks in the AFC playoffs it. was that big play ability. That the niners there's through their dominant front four. Were taking away. Mahomes running for his life just by his brilliance kept the game close because is almost any other quarterback decided. Lamar Jackson has a couple sacks. Fumbles and the game gets away. Like what Von Miller Cam Newton a few years back but he was able to stay on his feet. Keep the game from getting away and the what really sticks out to me at that moment again. Midway through the fourth quarter after the tyreek hill catches is overturned on review. And you feel the entire building is psyching up. It feels like the niners are about to make the big play. Plays away from winning the super. Aw It is third and a miles third and fourteen. I believe third and fifteen and I leaned to my cousin Matt. I said the most likely play. Is You get try to get half of this back and then make a manageable fourth-down fourth and five and get it done. But no that's not what the chiefs do that's not how they operate and even a game where they never made any big plays with the season on the line mahomes dropback. This time found tyreek Hill West on a busted coverage and that changed

Super Bowl LIV Analysis: Don’t pin 49ers’ fourth-quarter failure all on Kyle Shanahan

"Ring and it was one heck of a ball game in these Kansas City Chiefs give him all the credit the world it look for you know for for for all the marbles here in the fourth quarter that you know Kyle Shanahan and and the San Francisco forty Niners who were putting consistent pressure on Patrick my homes all night long forcing them out of the pocket making him uncomfortable you know the sum of throws you could tell were under duress but when he needed it most more homes came through the big gun third down in fifteen conversion to tie re kill and how about Damian Williams shady McCoy tonight was a healthy scratch and if you ask yourself you know I wonder why what is in the sea that we don't see and I saw shady house in Miami during the week and and I swallow Sean during the week I didn't have the I knew because the it worded already started to leak out that he wasn't going to play he was a healthy scratch you know most of the post season and he wasn't going to to play in the Superbowl either and now you know why the the lead running back for the Kansas City Chiefs Damian Williams a quad side controversial as I mentioned touch down on the swing pass around the right side of a quarter of the end zone it was a third down play additionally called a touchdown as the the tip of a football broke the plane the question for some of you that are on the other side of the celebration going tonight is that the maybe the the toll was out of bounds before the ball broke the plane none the less they did not reverse the call the call stands obviously Shanahan loses a a Todd did you lose a time out there Jack was at a did he owe owed knows a scoring play so since it was a scoring play he did not have to use it I didn't have to throw the red flags we didn't lose a time out but the improper use the poor use I mean he committed el do you read like mistakes tonight did Kyle Shanahan and for the second time in three years he spent the bit as far as his play calling is concerned they were running the football down the chief thrown all night long and when they had a second five on that drive you chose to throw the football and second of five in complete third and five in complete punt and here come the chiefs it did the the momentum got swung to the chief side by the poor play calling and it's not just me some of the experts after the games of the same thing by Kyle Shanahan so interesting the way this all played out you can really rely on the run game to which was their strongest suit in that final three minutes like he had that qualifying you throw in the final three minutes even in that last drive and and I said you know yeah in years past and I remember the super bowls the all the great forty niner teams had the the big difference between those teams and the last two forty nine teams that have been in the Superbowl have been the quarterback position because Colin Kaepernick couldn't get it done against the ravens what was that's going back about eight nine years now yeah I think twenty fifth what we have technology like what the which super ball is the one in New Orleans at the lights went out and Jimmy go Rapallo tonight when most he needed to take his team down the field we have that one last chance to get the interception of the chief come up with the pick to just see all things but what are you what are your years back to a Joe Montana would he have gone down the field hit rice it Taylor you know he hit the the tight end hit baby Roger Craig out of the backfield this was Jimmy Garoppolo as the old a member in the in the political debates I know Joe Montana and Jimmy Garoppolo you're no Joe Montana AGL now if not Jody and I know Steve young and I guess what Jimmy Garoppolo you're no Steve young lady he played I mean by the way is twenty thirteen the lesson twenty thirteen that was with captain a good quarterback against the ravens he came up short and then I go rob Lowe comes up short to be is it these are very different times for the San Francisco forty Niners at the quarterback

ESPN daily terms conditions and exclusions apply So Kyle Shanahan has just had what is probably the worst game of his life literally set the next day. He is announced as the new head. Coach of the San Francisco Forty niners. How did that transpire? Well the forty niners. I had fumbled around with head coaches for a couple of years and they had initially look to hire Josh mcdaniels from the Patriots. He pulls out and I think after that they knew it was kyle. I WANNA be a head coach my whole life and but it wasn't something that I was just going to do to do. It's something I'd like to do forever and only way you can do. That is if if you have a good opportunity to win somewhere and it's not easy to win in this league. It's not easy at all but when you have everyone going the same direction so he gets there and they they had given the head coach the power to hire the GM and John Lynch who had played for the buccaneers played for the Denver broncos. Mike Shanahan new Kyle a little bit because he had broadcast some of Kyle's games when Lynch was a broadcaster for Fox calls them and kind of raises his hand. Hey put me in coach. It's really startling to think about you. Think about Kyle Shanahan getting a head coaching opportunity. You know yes. He got a six year contract. But these jobs don't come come around that often and to think that you know. He gave the business of running personnel and to a certain extent running a large part of the team to broadcaster who had zero personnel. Experience is really fascinating. How is the decision received in San Francisco? I think people four surprised and shocked and you know there was a lot of criticism about it. Because you have people like John Elway Ozzie. newsome former players. who go into management? But they paid. He summed Uis. At least you know elway ran an AFL team you know Ozzie. newsome started as a Scout Lynch had come straight out of the broadcasting booth and and a lot of people were like look. These are prized jobs. Why is he getting this and I think that one of the interesting things about John Lynch that he he inherently understood was that being general manager is as much or more about leading a team than it is picking players you know he likes being in the face for the team in moments Kyle would rather just game plan and so in a weird way? Even though they didn't know each other well they complimented each other in in a way that's more dynamic and deeper than we often think about a coach. GM relationship so they get off to a rocky start their own nine at the beginning of that first season and then they land Jimmy and as you mentioned before Shanahan laid the groundwork with bell check after Super Bowl fifty one but how the actual trade come about Bella Check has had a lot of respect for Mike Shanahan. They competed against each other going back to the Super Bowl. When the broncos played the giants in one thousand nine hundred six and they were kind of peers in for a while we'll take? Mike was the best coach of that generation and then Belichick came and he took that and and when spy gate hit in two thousand seventeen. Roger Goodell called Mike Shanahan to try to ask him about what he thought about what the Patriots were doing. And how much advantage it again. Mike had Bella checks back and bill belichick never forgot that. Then you have kyle come along. Who's turned Matt Ryan into an MVP? Somebody that bill respected a lot that he was willing to go through dissect painful of a loss so soon after it happened and just pick his brain and broader about what. It's like to be a head coach in the NFL and so fast forward to October Bella. CZECHO- told everybody. I'm not treating Jimmy Garoppolo. The people in the building outside the building teams that called right before the trading deadline kyle. Shanahan wakes up one day with a text message from Bill Chac saying give me a call and Kyle L. called him in. Bill offered Jimmy to the forty niners for a second rounder. The forty niners brass discuss this. They actually thought Bella checklist posturing I think so. They prepared a bigger counter to send back to the Patriots in the event that it came to that but he wasn't posturing he wanted to make that deal will and when he sent Jimmy to San Francisco he talked at length publicly and is next press conference about how highly he thought of Jimmy. And how highly thought. aww Kyle Shanahan. He definitely wanted Jimmy to be successful and saw kyle someone who would help get the best out of him. It's it's one of those crazy things. I mean the forty niners Kyle and John were planning to go after Kirk cousins. You know the Shanahan's especially kyle love Kirk cousins when he was in Washington. They drafted in the same years. Rg three and then Jimmy kind of fell on their laps and change their plans and the rest is history. It's interesting that you served described him as falling into their laps. Because for all of the praise that Shannahan Lynch deserve for the culture. Some of the decisions they've made made there's also been a fair amount of look right. I mean Jimmy comes in. He plays well but then he gets hurt. They have a terrible record They end up with the number two pick. Pick in the draft last year and Arizona decides they want Kyla Murray so Nick Bosa the best pass rusher and football also lands in their lap. Yeah there last year was weird I mean so obviously. There are thinking playoffs entering the year because Garoppolo I think he'd gone five knows starter when they first traded for them so they're thinking playoffs offs. Jimmy doesn't go out of bounds. Blows out his knee. Their season is kind of over but it was really odd because they lost a lot of games the rest of the year. They lost the most most of them. At least they lost them close in so it was like a perfect scenario because nobody wants to tank. But if you're not gonNA make the playoffs you'd rather have you know one of the top three picks you can get it and so they ended up getting the second pick in the draft as they built confidence as a team because they were right there her. When I look at the niners team set I see a lot of players who are just perfect? For SHANAHAN'S SCHEME I've thought about that in the NFC championship watching thing remastered. WHO's an unusual running back? He's sort of taller and faster and a little skin year and is just absolutely perfect. For what Kyle Shanahan wants is to do when you look at this niners roster do you just see his fingerprints all over it absolutely when Kyle Shanahan interview for jobs both offense coordinator and as a head coach he could tell you exactly the traits and the skill set in even the personality traits that he wanted each player player on offense. It blew people away how detailed he was in terms of what he wanted for the type of system that he wanted to run. So if you use is that as a baseline they're able to scout for that they can find those traits and then Kyle and his staff are really imaginative. And they can figure you're out ways to deploy that talent almost regardless of you know who it is. They're not scouting for football players their scouting for their football players. And at least right now. The forty niners have captured that all of Kyle's decisions visions everything. That's happened over. The last couple of years has paid off for him there in the Super Bowl. How often do you think twenty eight to? Three's going to come up this week. You know what will come up a lot of really because I think the reporters finally have that access to Kyle and WanNa talk to him about it. But you know these things kind of Peter out as the week goes on. I mean you know how it is by Friday. We're all I'm just so exhausted or exhaustive. Everything that everybody has to say about the game. We're just like get us to the game. It's so it's almost like you know before you get married married dislike please. We've been planning this forever this at this thing over with but you know it was pretty clear the other night when they beat the packers because forty niners were dominating that entire entire game the game itself was never really in question and yet you know kyle didn't smile until the thing was over after the game. He he said you know. I know better than to ever count on a football team until the clock hit zero. I am never comfortable and games until it's officially over. Once it officially over I got bombarded by everyone. Schofield those injuries tomorrow. And that to me shows that he's learned something from that game and that that game still haunts Zim. It's something that he still carries with him but in a positive way thanks thank you Meena coming up. We remember the lives of those who died in the tragic accident that claimed Koby. Bryant's life.

"Sedgwick is a senior writer at ESPN and discovery. Recall Shanahan since two thousand six seth. This Sunday we have a battle between two highly respected head coaches in Andy Reid in Kyle Shanahan and Andy. Reid has been coach for twenty one years and has sort of become a lovable folk hero around the league. How would you describe? Kyle Shanahan the hand. Well I don't think kyle is the lovable folk hero of the NFL. That's definitely for sure. He's a younger guy. He's kind of an assassin and we got everybody who in the League who was rooting for Andy Reid. He's older he's been around he's you know he's had a lot of horrific playoff failures. People kind of think kyle will get his and I think you know. Oh that's interesting going into this game because they both have super bowl scars. You know. You have Andy Reid from the two thousand four season when they lost by only three points. Patriots we'll deal down in the second will took away as it gave us a pause at as much as you have to respect the eagles. It's still remain. Hey painful and then of course you have kyle scar. And that's maybe a bigger one when they lost twenty two three lead a couple years ago important research. The one of the ways in which Indian Indian Kyle are similar. Seth is that they are both brilliant offensive minds maybe the two best offensive coaches in the NFL and Shanahan in particular. I think is seen as something of a football genius these days despite twenty eight to three. I don't know if you you watch the show succession. SAYS BUT PEOPLE COMPARE KYLE to Kendall Roy who for those who don't know sort of the Ceylon of this wealthy family really. He looks like the actor. But I think it's also because you know. He's the son of a famous legendary coach. Mike Shanahan is one of the most famous coaches of all time and also he seems to have that sort of cold blooded killer personality. Do you think that's fair. Yeah there's no doubt and I mean if you're someone like Kyle you've been raised in football when Mike was really making his run with the Broncos and they were winning super bowls also kyle was a teenager and so he would just hang around his dad nonstop remembers from your time in Denver goes in there All of them. I mean it was. It was a great time. I just go into that run. And they won the Super Bowl my senior in high school which was real need. That was back. When they didn't have wireless cord so I was always the the cord boy holding hold on my dad's cords which got made fun of a lot for it? But have to that Green Bay superbowl wireless the next year. So I think they the only one one more because the record-holder is what I always tell. My Dad was really fun. And he's just had exposure his entire life from such a close proximity to those types of moments moments. Kyle is a coach you know. He loves being alone in his office. Looking at film trying to unlock walk any weakness in the defense when you get them going on something if he's outside of facility he can be like incredibly funny and cool to be around but when he's in the the facility I mean something switches him one of his very first meetings with forty niner staff. He actually said look if I walk by in the hallway and you say hi to me and I don't even respond. I'm sorry in advance. Please don't take it personally. But I just get so geared up and so in my head like humans like detaches from the known world as as you mentioned Kyle was steeped in the game from basically when he was born he goes from coaching wide receivers to becoming an offensive coordinator at a very young age. Each what were the early years of his career like he's always been a great offensive mind even in Washington and even Cleveland went. He didn't quite get the credit that he deserved deserved. Kyle of course was the offensive coordinator for the BROWNS for time only a year. Everyone always sort of wondered why he got out after a year. Of course now. It's obvious but at the a time people kind of looked at Kyle differently K.. You know is he being a little petulant you know or things not going well so he wants an escape route. He wanted out so bad that he went to the head coach with a list of thirty thirty two points as to why he wanted out. I don't know if the thirty two but the other thirty two teams but he. He came to head coach and said this is one out here. My thirty two the reasons why and they released him from his contract. Something that I think strikes me about some of those teams that he coached coached. THE OFFENSE CLEVELAND WASHINGTON HOUSTON ATLANTA. They were all really good. Offenses maybe underrated. In retrospect yeah no doubt and he did it with different types of quarterbacks and I think that's one of the most interesting things as you know he did it with Matt Schaub he did it with. Rg Three he did it with Rex Grossman that's one of the marks. Of a good coaches you know. Can you adapt and you you know you talk about his dad. His Dad beat the Patriots during the Patriots. Early run which was a defense of dominated team with Jake plumber with any canal. I mean these. You know it wasn't like you had John Elway the entire time and so I think it's one of the things that Kyle learned was that you've got to be able to stay ahead of the defense on offense regardless of personnel. You mentioned that Kyle coached with a lot of different quarterbacks over the years when he was rising up as an offensive coordinator how did his approach evolve evolve by the time he arrived in Atlanta in two thousand fifteen as their offensive coordinator. Well I think that he was one of those guys. That was kind of underrated. Did which is kind of weird given that you think about him is coming in being Mike Shanahan sign and being overrated. If anything I don't think people realize just quite how good he was when he got to Atlanta. You had a deep roster a veteran quarterback and you know they really so we took off the freemen rivals glow chose to cash out they feel Julio into Green Bay territory stiff arm into fifteen. Hey Ryan steps up with a pocket Matt Post. Does he story the wrestling for the ball. Game is over twenty years to. Here's to Super Bowl. So the Falcons make it to super bowl. Fifty one against New England. And it's in Houston Seth you and I are there were in the stadium. Falcons fans are thriving. They're happy vibrant vibrant. In that moment. How do you remember feeling well? I think that when Brady threw the pick six at the end of the first half is when I was like AAC. Wow this might get out of Control Shotgun snap. Because he throws short pudding talk radio looked exposed host and the Patriots looked exposed. And it just looked like it was the Falcons Day and then they came out in the third quarter score touchdown. They're up twenty three and you're like this is insane because not only are the Patriots who no matter what win or lose. Always play an exciting super bowls. They'RE GONNA lose a blowout and then it was an epic collapse. Kim Stamp on thirty two minutes of your comes through his the TV leaks. Matt Ryan Get Strip sack. That's kind of the beginning beginning. It felt like I want a horror movie but that doesn't feel quite right to capture the level of dread in in the stadium. It was kind of like a slow moving train wreck where this kind of error of terrible inevitability begins to slowly sink over the stadium and then with five minutes left. Atlanta's up by a score. What happened the Falcons just completely Wheatley self-destructed there at the twenty two yard line with just over three minutes left? All they need is a field goal. They are super bowl champions. If they get it I down to the twenty-three they hand off. They lose a yard second down. Matt Ryan is sacked again. He goes to the thirty of New England. It's a lawsuit third-down. He completes a pass to get them back into field goal range only. There's a holding penalty eighty and the next thing you know it's third and like thirty one and it's like what do you do. I don't care how brilliant Kyle Shanahan is. There is no play that that he has for third and thirty one and the Super Bowl against the New England patriots then the Patriots skip the ball back force overtime and the rest is history. No in the first overtime tossed it to white left so right side. Why don't cut back? And he well JAS white has has won the super bowl or New England every now and then that game comes on. NFL Network on on replay. And I still have no idea how the falcons completely lost that game. It just seems like they should win every time you watch it and you know Kyle took the blame for that. I mean people really came after him. Arrogance is what did him in electronic get cute seem to be what did Shanahan in that. Circumstance stands we have anointed him that genius and he tried to do genius stuff when all they needed to do. Run the ball. That's it. Run the ball three times and let your kicker kick it in a dome instead. They didn't even get any time off the clock. Kyle's and aggressive coach. He remained aggressive then and it completely backfired on him. It's one of those things that stuck with him. I remember every single play and I will go over those for the rest of my life That's it's kind of the life we live as coaches and that's magnified in the Super Bowl but also that case in every game and in terms of the use the words I blew it. I don't look at it that way. I believe this an opportunity and you know we didn't get it done. I'll go back to every play through that for for the rest of my life. It's a scarring on him and it's a black mark on his resume Eh. But in the same sense he wasn't just on him. I mean they had a twenty five point. Lead in the defense couldn't get any stop at anytime on first down second and third down fourth down on two point conversions. It wasn't just his fault a month after that game he was at the. NFL combine he met with Bill Belichick alone and they met for hours and he wanted to talk to bill about being a head coach but he also WanNa talk about that game and what went wrong and it was something that Bella L. A.. Check really respected. That Kyle had gone and done that. And I actually think it helped pave the way for the Jimmy Garoppolo Trade Coming up how. The forty niners landed their franchise quarterback.

"Heard a lot of people say dope in a little bit of A. We'll go so we can see them. rings coach. I I think because I've been saying that you do. I tried. I tried America and my goal is to be All right coach. Speaking of coaches cow Shanahan is making his super bowl debut as head coach last time he coached in the Super Bowl. It was three years ago. It was super bowl. Fifty one John and he was the offensive. Coordinator of the Falcons. When the Falcons Boo Twenty eight to three lead to the Patriots he then went home empty-handed even though a few seasons have passed? Shane remember the lessons. He learned in that game. There's definitely parts that Super Bowl that I would love to have back and stuff i. It was very hard on myself but you know the whole narrative of what Iran that we would have one. I know that wasn't the case. I know it went into that game and all the stuff that happened. So that's something to bother me. I won't say that I ever relaxed Super Bowl especially with Tom. Brady having a bowl. But that's something that keeps you humble on board every single moment until the game's over coach. What do you think Shanahan can learn from what happened in that game that he can take into this super bowl matchup against the chiefs? Y you see what he learned even this this past game where every every inclination of an offensive coordinator who is also the head coach. When you've got a quarterback blake link Jimmy Garoppolo in an offense like he has is the throw the ball more but he was he was he was a yeah? It was going well. He was limited to eight passes. which is an incredible all number to me? That's a direct reflection of what he learned and you go through a lot of lessons in life but in the NFL and when you go through a lesson that's as painful for as the one that he went through you're gonNA have a plan in place. In in in his defense. There was a head coach who could have trump them at any point on any those different drives and now he is the head coach. I'm sure he's going through that situation. Ideal you're in that situation being up as much as they were. But he's GonNa cover that with his coordinators maybe in a way that that he wished it had been covered when when he was in the same spot. Or the other. And I understand Shanahan's point and I'm not attorney relitigate super bowl fifty one but his that we couldn't just run it every single time at kind of true what's also true is run it or or not. They were not taking the play clock down within five seconds as when you have that type of lead especially late in the game has changed winning. You still have a lead you absolutely have to do. And and what was the most critical of all the errors was what they did or more accurately what they didn't do after. Julio Jones made the catch that it should iced the game that catch we thought it was one of the greatest catches. Who's right there alongside? The Mario Manningham catch the Super Bowl. You one where it's like. Oh my God how did he make AAC that throw and that catch will now they are going to win. Third the twenty two yard line up eight points inside a four minutes if you just were too and I know you can't you. You wouldn't just take knees in that spot if you trust your field goal kicker the game's over and said they put themselves in a position where they took sacks where they stopped the clock and that's why the Patriots were able to come back. But I do think you learn from that. I think it's unfortunate that he had to learn from it and that painful of a fashion but two coaches point. I think he has shown shown that type of growth as far as style. And this is something you guys did so well in New England that you did well in your coaching stops style. points are fake. It is not about how how you win. The game is about. Did you win the game. There comes a point in a game and the niners. I'm MM CERTAIN THEIR THEIR BEST game plan and their hope is that this happens in the Super Bowl. We're opponent is no longer your opponent we're opponent is the clock and once that happens in your game plan has to go out the window and you start playing against the clock especially since they changed the onside kick rules to where it becomes an onside kick game. You've essentially lost which is different than even during that Super Bowl. So that's I think Shannon has learned even if he's doing a little revisionist history as far as what happened Super Bowl and I think we have seen in these playoffs so far. Yeah when you find yourself on the wrong side of Super Bowl history you. You're going to remember the lessons that come out of that experience. And I think that last week's game against the packers an example of Kyle Shanahan growing as a play call because I haven't met an offense coordinator that doesn't want to throw the ball all around the yard but the fact that he was able to stay with the run to the tune racking up nearly three hundred yards rushing and only allow in your quarterback to throw the ball eight times. I think that that's significant growth. But that's also recognizing housing the strengths of your team and playing to them. If you look at Super Bowl fifty one. When they played the Patriots they had success running the football in the first half? So you would think if if something's working let's stay with it and force them to stop it when they forced them to stop it when they stop it. Then we'll come up with another way to be able to try to have productivity on the opposite side of the the ball but you make them stop what you do. Well I and if they never do it well. That's to your advantage. So I think that that's a big thing that he can take out of it but I also wonder how Kyle Shanahan will do on this stage and terms of overall game management. Because it's different when you think about it from a play calling standpoint as opposed to managing the game feeling the heartbeat of the game and making decisions in real time recognizing the pressure in the magnitude of the moment. So that's something to watch for. Now he's got a great resource in his family tree tree. His Dad has been on that stage multiple times. So I'm sure you can lean on them from that but I'd be interested to see how he handles that because the super bowl is not just any other game and if you try to sell that to your team what to yourself. You're only doing yourself a disservice when you when you look at decisions that oftentimes we're so results oriented and I get that so you also have to look at the process to how you got those resulting and was that flawed as you move forward and they weren't running the ball very well in the second half and I. I think there was this mentality. Would that offense they were. They were the I believe the best offense in the league that year the eight highest offenses in League in League history so there was that the mindset of. We're going to go win this game as opposed to. We're not going to lose this game and when when you look back at things people criticize you weren't conservative enough but if you get to conservative then people criticize the other way and say you're one of the eighth best offenses ever in NFL history. But yeah you went into a shell. So it's IT'S I. I don't think it's completely fair to just retroactively. Look at this and say you know I. It's all you're listening. You're totally right. And I could see you already. percolating with the chiefs game plan with what the chiefs did in the second half against the titans when they were once they got up eleven and they started it just running the football. If Patrick doesn't complete that third and six bomb Sammy Watkins. Put the game away if that goes incomplete and now all of a sudden it's like wait you guys were it just annihilating them through the air. Then you start running. It had been old Andy Reid. You know exact from the game. That's exactly what it felt like it where it was headed there and so I totally understand. I think it's a really good point. The point I'm making is for that specific game. You when you say. Let's go win it. They want it when Julio caught out that. Pass when when you're when you're at the twenty two yard line inside a four minutes up eight unless again unless you're field goal. Kickers torn his hamstring. And you can't you're indoors with a chance to go up. Eleven and make sure the other team has no timeouts left that what the aggressive play was to Julio and you won the game there and they kept their foot on the gas. They're calling two more plays on. Dr Knocked him out of field goal range. That's the part that it does appear. Shanahan certainly has learned for Shannon's about to play a team who who raised a twenty four point deficit themselves.

"In technically, I feel like I had more than four days off because Wednesday, I filled in on the Murph and MAC show with cope. So I had like most of Wednesday off and really let's face it anytime, you can host morning drive in San Francisco. That's kind of like a holiday anyway. That's pretty awesome. So yeah. Man, decompressed feel good got the disappointing. News Sunday morning woke up to a very cryptic press. Release from the forty Niners Reuben foster has been released. I said oh man got in trouble. Again, you know, what that is? And you heard Kyle Shanahan. They're clearly the disappointment being felled all throughout this organization. And when you talk about issues of domestic violence, the first thing that you want to make. Sure that you're paying mind too is the victim in the situation. In the way, Kyle Shanahan spoke about it today. Very eloquently and was spot on and there is a zero tolerance policy. Now, the business that went down over the summer with the accusations that she later recanted. It cast Rubin in such a negative light and the forty Niners organization for him to still be associated in affiliated and spending time with this young lady that shows such an inherent lack of judgment that the fallout from that for Reuben foster is you get what you get my man. And that's what Kyle Shanahan alluded to at that point. It just didn't matter and off the record. I've heard a few things about what may or may not have went down in that hotel. And it sounds like maybe Reuben foster didn't totally crossed that line. But the state of Florida's laws being what it is. Actions had to have been taken. But regardless Reuben foster grow up my man when you go on a trip with an NFL team to play in another city. It is a business trip. And when you hear the word business that implies professional business in the business of being a professional football player. You're representing the forty Niners. You're representing the NFL and all fifty three men on that roster. Need to adhere to a certain code of conduct expecially Reuben foster. So it was very disappointing. I gotta be honest Reuben foster. He's a likable guy. He's a fun loving guys. Teammates. They love them. Reuben foster has overcome so much in his life. If you ever really feel bad about like the hand you've been dealt in life. Read up on Reuben foster childhood in some of the things that happened in his life. Okay. Now does that excuse his behavior? As it. Applies to putting his hands on females not for a millisecond. All right. Let me just be totally clear about that. I like most of you out there have a zero like a negative policy about domestic violence, you keep your hands in your pocket. And whether that line was crossed on Saturday night. In consequential. The reality is once again Reuben foster put himself in a situation at the team hotel the night before a game where the entire organization just flowed across the country. And you're in a hotel room with a woman who just months earlier put you in a situation where she tried to ruin your career. And you're kicking it in a hotel room with her. Ruben com on my man. And like I rooted for Reuben foster win. I was one of the guys that went on Twitter after it was brought to light that he hadn't done those things that he was accused of in the summer. And I said, you know, what I was wrong. And because we emotionally react when we hear things like that. All men a man put his hands on a woman, dude. He's gotta go. Screw him forty Niners. Can't stand by him. And John Lynch Kyle Shanahan said, hey, look, we want to let this process play out. Now, part of me had to think if it was I don't know a backup right guard. Maybe wouldn't have got that same rope. But that's talent tolerance scale that. We live in in the NFL. I understand that. I hope you do as well. For us. The first round pick on this guy. They wanted to give him every opportunity to get it. Right. And as I mentioned at the outset Reuben foster pretty likable guy. Call Shannon, and we'll hear some sound for Kyle Shanahan coming up. Calcium and even alluded to the fact that they were glad over the summer that they didn't do the knee jerk reaction thing and just summarily dismissed him because it came to pass that he actually hadn't done those things and she was falsely accusing him now. I admitted to being one of those people that when I heard it because my emotions ran high as a lot of us will when you hear stuff like that. And you say screw it. He's gotta go can have it cannot have it. And then I say, you know, what I was wrong. Reuben foster didn't do it. I mean, he's still had an assault rifles started the we'd charge. She still had the issue at the combine so wasn't like his hands. We're totally clean. But he didn't at the time. What came out she recanted? Her statement said I lied. You didn't beat that gal up. But here we are just a couple of months later in November while the team is on a business trip. Your professional football team. And you can't leave that at the house. And then there's this other story that surfaced. That officers back on October twelfth were called Elissa is is the gal. And they had an incident where they were arguing and the cops came and it was about something in foster cell phone now who's peacefully resolved. And no charges were filed. Nobody was arrested in the forty Niners and said they didn't even find out about that. Okay. I am going to err on the side of believing Kyle Shanahan there because I feel like they would have taking more drastic steps towards making sure that she wasn't around like the team hotel, for example. But you gotta understand to like, it's a free country. Okay. Nobody can prevent Reuben foster from having friends or family. There's a lot of wives and girlfriends that travel with these teams, and they don't put themselves in situations where people get arrested. So for Reuben foster. You got your second chance with the forty Niners in you blew it in the fact that he would still be affiliating what this woman just absolutely blows my mind, and it's disappointing. I was looking forward to talking about Reuben foster the football player and mind you the forty Niners having given us all hell of a lot of positive inside are a positive talking points this year. I mean, the the loss of Jimmy Garoppolo really put the nail in the coffin as far as their expectations for the season. And if you think that that football team that played yesterday wasn't mired in this distraction of Reuben foster. I can. I can't help you. I mean, it clearly affected them the same way. The you gene Robinson situation affected the Atlanta Falcons and their Super Bowl the same way. The Oakland Raiders were affected by bear Robbins when teammates go MIA or get arrested on game days. Yeah. That affects the team, absolutely. And the forty Niners will probably have a hard time going into Tampa Bay and winning that football game of the third string quarterback. Anyway. And like I mean who was playing receiver yesterday. I mean seriously. But for Reuben foster. You gotta take this as a learning experience. And we know how it works in the NFL. Charges may or may not be filed. He'll face some type of punitive damage from the NFL. They'll suspend face some kind of penalty. He's already been suspended once so it could be half a season could be a whole season. Who knows don't wanna speculate because that's process to play out. But at some point the twenty four year old now Twenty-four-year-old Reuben foster will be eligible for reinstatement. And teams in the NFL will bring him on board because we saw on the football field. He has the potential to be a very special football player. Now. Part of me just wants to say, you know, what? Ruben I'm done with you. I wash my hands. You you've been accused of domestic violence multiple times. I can't help you now. I also think this chicks crazy. Okay. I'm just gonna come out and say it this chick sounds Razi. Aren't they all man? Well, no. I mean, listen, we're not going there. Just kid. I gotcha. You by the way, Jacob Allante vigilante. Now, could you see your brother? Dave Jenks here as well. Hope everybody had a happy thanksgiving. I just I've been waiting all day to sink my teeth into this story. So appreciate you bearing with me. I don't want to give up on Reuben foster. You know, as as a man, I don't I couldn't care less plays replace football again. I mean, really what does that matter right now? And, you know, do I think he's redeemable? Yeah. When I hear things like putting your hands on a female to me. That's like one of the lowest things you can do. So I do have a problem with that. And you know, I would have a hard time like rooting for the guy, but there's two sides to every story takes two to tangle. And all that. So you just hope for his sake as a human who I think we all can be redeemed, and we can all find our way back. I'm hoping that for Reuben foster. This is that kind of rock bottom moment, and he will find his way back somehow and be a productive member of society. And no longer be accused of putting his hands on females. I mean, that's just as a nice jumping off point as far as Kyle Shanahan. I thought he showed a lot of class and leadership today the way handled this far as John Lynch catching a bunch of heat for drafting this guy. Look, let me just remind folks one thing. Okay. One very important thing. And by the way, eight away kmby are if you want to talk about this. We can do that for sure I'm happy to take calls on it. And if you have anything you want to say about it, both pro or. Anti Reuben foster. This is just an open forum. Okay. But let me just remind everybody one thing if they want to crush, John Lynch. Ruben foster was on the other line with Sean Payton, the head coach of the New Orleans Saints who was ready to announce Reuben foster that the New Orleans Saints were taking him with the next pick. He told the story on these very airwaves about how he basically hung up on Sean Payton because John Lynch was on the other line and they were getting ready to draft him. So that's where everybody had Reuben foster picked to go, and we all know he would win a whole of lot higher. Adding not have the issues off the field and the deluded Sambol at sample at the combine. So this being some indictment on John Lynch hogwash. Okay. Malarkey and keep in mind to foul, Shannon. First time head coach, John Lynch, first time GM these are still learning. And I think one thing we've learned in the NFL is player evaluation player conduct. This is a very imperfect science why we're not dealing with finite. Subjects here. We're dealing with people. Okay. We're dealing with humans, and guess what human beings flawed? That's all there is to it down in Arizona real quick fallen five. Eight eight are Dan you're on kmby are what's up, dude? Dan, fire away. Nice job. All right. Four one five. Eight away. Candy are is the number. We'll hear some sound from Cal Shannon, coming up on the other side. It's came here tonight. NBR.

"Two hundred feet above sea level but the giants got to help themselves, with the, Diamondbacks, in front of them four four games cranky Bumgarner that's matchup worth watching different listening. To five. Forty pre-game six forty first pitch. You're on kmby are six. Seventy sports leader I have here my hands A list of names that John Lund and Kevin Franson we'll have on their program starting at three o'clock here, on be our Brian Sabin Kyle Shanahan and Jimmy Garoppolo line and France and down at. The Niners facility and Santa. Clara training camp ongoing and even aware in the early stages of it seemed to, be going smoothly The training camp Just, like spring training a major league baseball gets. You work in, don't get, hurt of course talking about two completely different sports football is almost designed for you, to get hurt but I think you've already had a couple of situations where guys have gotten hurt season ending injuries. In training camp I think the Packers lost themselves a linebacker to. A ligament, injury, the chargers yes the chargers lost an. Oft injured player he's a cornerback tore. His achilles, tendon once again you just I guess the knocking sound if it doesn't work with this. Gigantic Winston, on, the microphone but you just knock on. Whatever surfaces close to you that the. Niners who, are better With talent still thin and a lot of places you just hope that guys don't get hurt you up the frontline frontline guys don't get hurt and you hope the guys that, aren't even necessarily household names with the Niners if they don't, get hurt. Either because they need the depth and. They're kind of still in a position at certain positions where, they they'd figure out who, can play, in who, can not play but injuries that's just, a part of, the deal you. Just hope us under those serious career ending or season I should say ending injuries but yeah Kevin Francis John Lund down. At the Niners facility Kyle Shanahan Jimmy Garoppolo and Brian and of course to talk about the giants speaking of the Niners, and compensating about what's happening down there at Santa Clara Eric branch covers the Niners for the San Francisco Chronicle will. Join me look bit fifteen minutes or so away from now and we'll get the latest, and greatest song what seems to be very professional and quiet thankfully trained camp for your San Francisco forty Niners this is back? To a story that we, started talking, about and, I haven't checked the internet's as of, late I I, can only assume. I don't even need to check that urban Meyer is no longer the coach at Ohio State right he's he's he's he's. Still there still has a job arrest does job as the head coach of Ohio State football the Ohio State pardon me, yes because you could get it confused between Ohio State in the Ohio State sorry didn't mean to make that air The football coach at the Ohio State University has not been. Fired, yet he's still has a job How is that. Again it just it, must be paperwork it's gotta, be paperwork it's urban Meyer is bad for business, so one with think as I told you. Earlier urban Meyer lost the sponsorship to Bob Evans restaurants which apparently is. A big thing in Ohio Never heard of. It I guess it's good food who. Knows a remind lost, his sponsorship he's bad for, business for Bob Evans restaurants when does urban Meyer, become bad for business for the big business That is the Ohio State University football Iraq witted guy that was not a very good guy It's the things you shouldn't do been doing those. Things even when he was at, Florida is. Doing things you should do wide receiver Here's the thing. That baffles me about it And I have to try to be baffled about this, situation because if you really think about it it'll. Turn your stomach because of the domestic abuse Allegations at this point it it happened You're, rolling thick with a. Wide receiver coach I could see it this guy was, your longtime, defensive coordinator, or your longtime offensive coordinator but man you stick. In. Your life, for, the wide receiver coach I, mean listen I get it that coaching it's it's a real tight and. Sometimes not, necessarily the good weight fraternity. But man you gotta. Wire receiver coach, that's a habitual lines stepper. To me it's a little, bit, easier, just go ahead and, say hey man this point to work but now wide receiver coach very important to urban Meyer and so important to the point. Where he forgot dot some minor details all right Details When asked about this coaching Is unfortunate ability to keep his hands of his. Just. Definitely not. Let's sale through that loophole anyway. So Kyle Shanahan the forty Niners head coach obviously grew up around our age. Yes. He grew up a little Wayne fan obviously. And when he had a son with his wife, he named his son Carter after a little Wayne. That's that's a little wins name, given name birth name? Correct. Also, the name of the album's Carter Carter to right, of course. So what is a little wind do? What does we do?
