Pandemic playoffs: Brewers, Astros in despite losing records

"When you woke up on Sunday morning none of the eight matchups were said I. think that's kind of cool that would be like the the final day of the regular season Lebron Yeah I don't even know who we're playing. That's what it was for every single team yesterday in Major League Baseball your dodgers are going to play the brewers who got in yesterday with the first losing record granted at sixty. Games with the first losing record for a team in the history of the Major League Baseball Playoffs there were twenty nine and thirty one opening round best of three all in the same ballpark what are your thoughts and we couldn't lose I mean you know it. Likely not, but we could because his only three games all they got to do is win two of them, right? So baseball is so weird dodgers obviously you mentioned we got him at home dodger stadium. I don't think that you know I'm sure we're going to roll out Walker Bueller in Kershaw and we're going to do what we need to do to get to the next round But you could lose you know teams could lose you know the beginning of the year, the dodgers and the Yankees were pretty much the favorites to to get to the thing. In the end, but then the pandemic happened then we had to do all of the rescheduling and figure out how many games that went on for so long how many games should they play the only WanNa play this amount, the players, WanNa, play that amount it became a money issue, and now we finally have gotten to the point where October will be playoff baseball. Speaking out, let's go through a couple of interesting storylines after this round by the way, then everything is going to be played at trial sites and eventually the world series will be played at the home of the Texas Rangers and they'll wrap that no. Later than October twenty eighth, they want to avoid the second third. So homefield everybody early, and then we're going to neutral sites, Los Angeles San Diego. Texas and Houston quick thoughts the Yankees of the five seat in the AL, the five seat, the rays of the one-seat. What does the same thing with the dodgers? Right? The Yankees could they take care of business they moved their events they don't they go home whether they a one C or DHCP. It's everybody's even really to be honest with you. Everybody's even Garrett Cole. Start, for the Yankees Chain Bieber for the Indians in for all the money they paid Garrett Cole Shane Beavers had a better year he has in when you look at it, there are no fans in the stands. So there's no home field advantage for anybody you know what's great about not having fans the Houston Astros. Left right. Everywhere they go. They are the sick see the astros have made it in baseball's big off season, they should just get blinked. Every time people bring up the Astros are frown just cheated just blatant just cheat to win. They're taking on the Minnesota twins keys, dodgers will take on the brewers the padres in the playoffs for the first time in fourteen years will take on the Saint Louis Cardinals and the much maligned and I know it's a sixty game season. How about the Miami Marlins under? Derek. Jeter, for everything that they have gone through there and they'll get the Chicago cubs. Yeah. They they. They deserve to being I'm happy for I'm happy for Jeeter because when he? Blew everything up and traded. Call Stan and everybody was like Oh they just care about the money. They're completely trash in the organization, and now they're in the playoffs and they take on. Chicago like you said, one

2020 MLB playoffs: Wild-card standings

"What a wild wild. Ride of a major league baseball season like unbelievable they got this thing in somehow someway was obviously a sprint Nada marathon like we're used to. But with that being said, there is a marathon of a Finnish coming on the final day of the regular season with forty four different scenarios as to what could happen for the twelve teams that still hanging in the balance of whether or not they're going to be in the postseason. It's. Pretty interesting to be honest with you John I mean one of those. Unbelievable seasons that we didn't really necessarily even see happening. It does happen I haven't necessarily been all that excited that into it but forty four scenarios regular seasons wild final day of the season that that's gotta be somewhat intriguing to people right? Yeah quite frankly I didn't realize it was that many I guess that that probably includes. The American League seating possibilities because they're the eight teams in the American League. We all know which teams are going to be in there now and only Tampa Bay number one in Houston number six of actually confirmed their exact seating spots. The others are all over the map depending on what happens today and in the National League only the top four seats are actually confirmed as being in the spots that they are currently and. And then we've got to other teams that are qualified and then there's fourteen in the National League competing for the last two wildcard spot to number seven and number eight seed. So I didn't realize it was forty four. That probably takes into account the combinations of of seating changes that may take place in today's games from today's games in the American league. In terms of teams actually getting in. It's down to four teams in the National League playing for two spots, and now we may not even know today if that is. The final situation because. depending on what happens today the cardinals may have to travel to Detroit on. Monday to play two games that were postponed earlier in the season because of the cardinals cove in nineteen situation. So frankly, it might be Monday be before we know which eight teams are in in the National League. Yeah it's it's been a very short sample size It's been a sprint rather than a marathon but to your point a bit of a marathon finishing that a huge number of combinations and. I was trying to figure it out this morning and I think I've kind of got it down as than in the National League as to how this may shake out I see four or five major combination. So if my brain is working correctly though those all things can happen but a lot of it's dependent on whether the cardinals have to play those two games in Detroit on Monday.

New York Yankees to host Miami Marlins in the Bronx

"Though the Yankees aren't going to be playing their wild card, Siri's in the Bronx, they would like to go into the postseason playing much better than they are right now. Just haven't played clean enough baseball and obviously we're gonna have to do that if we're going to reach our goal. Aaron Boone's Yankees, losers of five out of six after the Marlins top them for three on Friday, and extras they hit into five double plays, committed four errors. Aaron Judge called it a mental mistake. I'd rather get him out of the way now. Davey Garcia starts against Miami this afternoon at the stadium, Don Mattingly and his Marlins getting their long playoff drought out of their way. Their win and Philadelphia's lost to the Res clinched their first postseason berth since 2003 emotions come out. Start thinking about Jose. Four years ago. You know what we've been through here? Phillies owner John Middleton questioned after deciding to fire Gabe Kapler

"Last year. Hindsight's great, but it wasn't hindsight. John Middleton at the news conference last year when Hey, fired Gabe Kapler, and this is self explanatory, and let's hear John When you fired Ruben Amaro, you said it's a results based business, right? Gabe Kapler took the hit. And I'm wondering why it was just Gabe Kapler. And I, among other people are wondering why this and I like both Matt and Andy. Why those two gentlemen are sitting with you today after what you've done, so I'm gonna ask you a question. How are you going to give you some stats? The question is this You tell me what part of this organization isn't better today and really substantially better today than it was four years ago when they came So that's a little minor league system and I see since match drafted I believe you have two players that made the major leagues and Kohler bring this year and hazily. So outside of that, I'm wondering there's a feeder system. Other teams have injuries and they've overcome them. The Phillies couldn't and I don't think it was all games for, but I realized the decision had to be made. But what did he have to support him? From your draft picks. So happened Let me I've got the bullpens IRA, but to answer your question in the second half of the season, particularly from the trade deadline on Howard Isn't it? The fourth highest for the best bullpen? You're a in baseball. So this kind of sit there and say that covered was bears is not true, because if that's the case, then what about the other 2016? The worst bullpen. The cupboard was bare. Look at the bullpen this year. I love the way McClintock and he looked at Macklin Tak when he said that he fed him all these stats. Two roll out during this news conference. That's a joke. The bullpen the fourth best from July on well, this season doesn't go from July 1, and that's It was, it was a mirage. It was a joke to defend him and then animate failure says Well, we have three players in the top 100 baseball in the minor league system. There's 30 teams. That's barely an average. The Braves had five in the top 64. So let's go. Let's move on. So this week, McClintock and this is beautiful, too. This is a joke. God, let's go with McClintock. Um I am really proud of this team the way that they have overcome Not only the cove it issues early in the year, but more recently, the way the guys have stepped up to overcome some of the injuries that we've had Andi put themselves in a position this week to control their own destiny on DH Make a push for October. Um, that's probably The biggest thing for me, Bob is that I'm proud of the way this group is handled it. There's been, um, you know again, there been many challenges, most of which you've written about, but Just to see guys. Come up from the system and contribute to see the way that No nap and March John have performed in Jae Hee's absence to see The way that bone has been able to slide over from third to first security downs from 2nd 3rd to help us navigate. Reese is injury. Um, you know the way that Kodiak come up and got a couple of big plate appearances for us. I'm sure I'm missing. Jo Jo and Brandon have taken down beginnings the last couple of weeks. I think that's the thing I'm most proud of with. This group has been really rallied around the next man up mentality and put themselves in a good position heading into the final week. It's a joke. It's a joke I spin. He is the new spin doctor, Philadelphia. They've navigated through the Kobe. So is every other team. The Cardinals are still in it, and they had 11 doubleheaders. The Marlins had to sit in a hotel room for over over seven days, and they're in the playoffs. I don't want to hear about navigating through it. I don't want to hear about injuries. The Braves lost at one time or another, Every one of their five starters. They lost Freddie Freeman at the beginning of the year. They lost a kuna. I mean, it's a joke to you to say, Oh, yeah way injuries and bone moves from third to 1st 1st is probably his natural position and sugar goes from 2nd and 3rd. He started the season at third. It's been It's nonsense, and Jo Jo You know, coughed it up the last two outings. Stop stop. They actually got a break The way Hoskins was hitting that those things happened in their offense, maybe became a little bit better in five years. He's got one player to show for it. One player And that's Alec. Bone. One player

Listeners if you haven't seen the highlights pause this podcast call up the Blue Jays highlights from last night in to see something like you've never seen before it's. If, you can imagine a shorter maybe larger Pablo Sandoval plan catcher and going four for four and hitting home runs. I mean unbelievable. He's listed five eight to sixty five physically reminds me we you know you're trying to come up with the copper there were Sandoval Mike. was maybe being older Benjie Molina not young. But Older Benjie Molina and you could see the way runs. He's not ever going to be the Swiss guy. But part of the reason why I mean forget the you know the size and the shape. See Guy he's a right handed hitter. You do not see hitters in two, thousand, twenty hit the ball to right field away. He does that was I think. It's were to right field right including the home. Look. It's a he's a remarkable story for starters what he's only twenty one yet. Yes. Played above class say he can hit the bat looks legit. He walked more than he struck out in the minors last year and yeah, the Blue Jays have gotten dope production from their catchers this year. So can he play in the play offs I dunno buster yes. I mean you know who knows when we actually get there but you know when we reach this time of year teams, they don't really care what's in the back your baseball card they they don't really care when you were drafted or you know how much money they paid you. They only WANNA know if you're getting results, this is someone signed in two thousand sixteen out of Tijuana Mexico. "It was around Fenway Park. Red Sox, Yankees doing battle with no fans and no pregame atmosphere. BBC TV Stephanie Chan ventured over to Lansdowne Street and checked in on the bar. See what the biggest rivalry in baseball playing just a couple blocks away. This stretch of Fenway was a ghost town, Wally. People just aren't coming out. Karen suspects the covert restrictions could be to blame is way weird, but at the same time as time goes on, more people are coming out. We have a mouse when we need someone walking in the bathroom on great good food. Good time by the way. Red Sox did manage to win yesterday.
